Lotus bumped her shoulder with a grin. “You got the guy.”

Val smirked but a blush crept up her cheeks. “I’m not sure I got the guy yet, but it’s a step forward.”

“I’m glad he finally saw sense. He deserves to be happy and so do you. I’m not sure we could face much more of him prowling around like an angry bear because he was trying to deny he had a heart.”

Val laughed. “He has the biggest heart.”

“I know, and so do you.”

Val hugged her friend as they sat at the kitchen island with the gaudy gold appliances and hardware everywhere. It might have security but whoever had owned this place had zero taste.

“I got something.” Bás walked through from outside, his phone to his ear, but his eyes moved straight to her, as did his body as if an invisible magnet drew him there. He didn’t touch her but his strong arm pressed against her shoulder was enough for now. Lotus waggled her eyebrows at her suggestively, making her blush deeper.

Bás seemed unaware of the swoon he was creating and dove straight into the conversation. “A tip came through from Frankie about a warehouse. We have a location, but I want to make sure it’s not a trap before we head over.”

“Shouldn’t we strike now before he realises Frankie has told us? You said yourself he’s always one step ahead so we don’t have time to waste.”

“Damn, you’re right. God, I wish Scout and Monty were here so we could take them with us. This place is huge and we don’t have any more details.”

He pulled up the location on his phone using google maps and she nodded. It was huge and a scent would be much easier for her boys to find. “I miss my boys too.”

Bás turned and pressed a kiss to her head and she almost jumped. She was so used to him being hands-off that this sudden switch was jarring but in a very good way.

“We’ll see them soon.”

Lotus snapped her fingers in the air. “As cute as this is, we need to focus, love birds. We need to think like him. Boss man, you know him better than us so look at the map rather than drooling over your girl.”

Bás winked at her and turned to Lotus. “Why are you always busting my balls?”

“It’s my love language, boss man, you know that.”

Shaking his head he looked at the map, all three of them crowded around trying to spot something.

“What about Watchdog? Can he get a drone in the air or steal a satellite for us so we can get a look?”

Bás lips tipped up and she loved the squishy feeling in her belly that just a smile from him could give her.

“Let’s ask him.”

He hit the button for a video call and seconds later, Watchdog’s face appeared on the screen.

“To what do I owe the pleasure?”

“We need eyes on a warehouse before we have to go in blind.”

“Details?”

Bás sent the information over and they waited.

“While we’re waiting for me to get everything I need into position, I have an update on the doctor from Switzerland, Dr Eric Baumann. He went missing from his lab a week ago and neither he nor his family have been heard from since. A police report has been filed with the local force by his sister.”

“So Dr Baumann is just another casualty then?”

“Looks like.”

“I have to say a part of me is relieved. The last thing we need is that bastard having some mad scientist working with him.”

Val cocked her head at Bás. “Do you think Hansen is really behind all this?”
