“Yeah, it’s been one hell of a twenty-four hours. Go have five minutes of peace and quiet.”
“That sounds nice.”
He couldn’t resist leaning in and taking her lips when she tipped her head to him. She tasted sweet and spicy, exactly like the person she was in real life. When he pulled away from the kiss, which was in danger of going nuclear at any second, her eyes were hazy. It made his dick hard just imagining her looking at him like that when she was naked beneath him.
“Hurricane is making us some food. It won’t be anything special, maybe breakfast sandwiches, but do you want me to put something aside for you?”
His hand skimmed her side as he drew her to his body and placed a kiss on her temple. “Do you always look after others?”
“We all have our roles to play, this is part of mine.”
Gideon pulled away a little. “I don’t want to be part of a role to you.”
“You’re not.”
He saw it then, the fear she’d spoken of earlier. Someone had hurt this woman who was coming to mean everything to him. She felt the need to protect and nurture, and he guessed it was because she needed to be needed.
“Some food would be good.”
“Any preference?”
Gideon shook his head. “Nah, I’m easy.”
Nadia snorted and then looked shocked by it, and he laughed.
“Does that ladylike sound infer I am, in fact, not easy?”
“Gideon, you’re the least easy person I have ever met. You sent me back to the deli three times in one day because they didn’t get your order exactly perfect.”
A lightness he hadn’t expected after yesterday filled him at her teasing. “That’s because I needed an excuse to keep you coming back into my office.”
“I’m your PA, Gideon, you don’t need an excuse.”
His arms tightened around her, and he grinned, and she drew in a breath.
“That smile should come with a warning.”
“Yeah, what would it say?”
She tipped her head and her lips switched. “Warning, underwear may spontaneously combust.”
Gideon chuckled. “Did that just happen?”
“I thought you needed some air?”
“Changing the subject. Okay. Well, I did need air but turns out I just needed you after all.”
Nadia swatted his arm and pulled away as Reaper walked past them with his phone to his ear, a grin aimed at them.
“Get some fresh air, it will help with the drugs and I’ll bring some food out for us.”
“Okay.”
He watched her turn away and didn’t want to let her go. He wasn’t sure he’d ever want to see her walk away from him.
“Nadia!”
Her silky hair swung as she turned to him with a raised eyebrow. “Yes?”
