Bishop rolled his eyes, but his lips twitched. Tucking his phone away he looked back at Bás. “So what now?”

“Well, Duchess has gone back under cover to try and get to Carter. She’s taken this hard and is determined to end it.”

Bishop laid his head back against the rest. “I was a dick to her.”

Bás raised an eyebrow and frowned with the other. “Yeah, I heard.”

“I did apologise.”

Bás sighed. “Forget it, Bishop. We all know you didn’t mean it, but Duchess holds herself to high standards and she feels she let you down. It’s our job now to prove to her she didn’t.”

“How?”

“We catch these bastards and shut this nightmare down for good.”

“And how, oh wise one, are we going to do that?”

“By bringing in backup.”

“Who? Eidolon? Fortis?”

Bás shook his head. “No.”

“Well, are you going to share?”

“Do you remember the SEAL Team who helped Adeline get away from Ravelino?”

“Yeah, they relocated her to Alaska.”

“Yeah, well, they retired.”

“Did they indeed?”

“Officially they did, but unofficially they didn’t. They’re going to work with us to look into the US side of this operation.”

“Are we sure there is one?”

“Yes, that’s what Valentina and I went to find out and they have a similar set-up to the UK, and that’s not all. They have one in Europe too.”

“Jesus, that’s gonna need some sort of money to back it.”

“Yeah and we start with Carter Cavendish and his evil mother or at least Duchess does, and we work behind the scenes to back her up.”

“So this isn’t going to be over for a while?”

“No. It’s going to be slow, but we work smart.”

“I’ll need to be with Charlie some as I don’t know what the future holds.”

“We set up a property in the village for you both and Savannah is going to check on her when she goes home.”

“If she goes home.” A punch in the arm had him jumping back. “What the fuck?”

“Cut that negative shit out. Charlie is going to be fine, and we’re going to fix this shit.”

“When did you become Mr Sunshine and Roses?”

“When the alternative became unacceptable.” The car stopped outside the rectory and Bás turned to him. “We’re gonna fix this, Bishop, and then you can have your happy ending.”
