“Everything was a lie and I trusted you,”
“But don’t you see. We could be great you and I. You are the daughter I lost. I miss you.” He said the words with feeling, and she believed him.
“But I have a father, one I’ve not seen for over fifteen years because of you.” She blinked, trying to force away tears of grief and anger. “You manipulated me from the very beginning. My parents and Alex were never in danger, I could have gone home.”
“I will change your mind once we have renewed our friendship, you will see.”
She needed to find out about the hit on her. “What about the price on my head?”
“I will keep you safe, Evelyn.”
“So, you weren’t the one that set me up?”
“No, that was Simon. He was annoyed with you for taking his lover away from him,” he said with a wave of his hand as if it wasn’t relevant.
“I need the file, Arthur.”
“I will get it for you if you come with me.”
She saw for the first time the cold ruthless businessman he was and had always been. “I can’t.” She prayed that he had some affection for her still and would honour her wish.
He moved towards her and raised his hand, as she struggled to stand still. Cupping her cheek, he looked at her sadly. “If you change your mind then let me know. I will be watching.”
Evelyn let the grief at what she had lost wash over her as she watched him walk away from her.
“Be happy, Evelyn, and tell your Alex to take care of you or I will gut him.”
She had no doubt that the man in front of her would do just that. She knew she should stop him, he was a criminal, he was Osiris, but she couldn’t make her feet move. She could see some of the man who had dried her tears and cared for her in him. She wasn’t foolish enough not to see the Stockholm shit she had going on. She ran to the edge of the deck as he disappeared and watched as he boarded a small speed boat. He turned once to look at her and lifted his hand to wave just as a bullet lodged in his body making him fall to his knees. Shock was evident on his face as an explosion rocked The Kratos.
