Emme shook herself from her thoughts and focused again as Owen spoke.

“So, we believe he is renting a room at the Premier Inn on the A49, but he was picked up on traffic cams driving towards the old WWI munitions factory. You say that is close to here?” Owen asked as he turned to Zack and Zin.

Zack nodded. “Yes, we can drive as far as here.” He pointed to a map on the table that showed some buildings about three miles away. “Then we can hike across the woods and come in here.” He pointed to four points on the map.

“If Lucy and Zin go in here, Shane, you and I can move into position there and Jace, Lance, and Owen can cover the back. This man is trained and dangerous and we can’t assume he hasn’t got any hostages and he will most certainly be heavily armed.”

Emme was shocked to hear that Zack was going into the field—he didn’t usually do field work, especially since he had married Ava.

“Yes, I don’t want anyone else brought in on this and I like to keep my hand in,” he said as he cast a glance at her.

“Dee and Will are going to coordinate from here, with Bea running the mission.”

Beatrice stood and moved in beside Zack. “Remember we want this bastard alive so that we can get some answers. I have no memory of this man and need to know why I was a target,” she finished, her voice controlled but authoritative.

“Any questions?”

“What about me?” Emme asked.

Zack looked to Beatrice and she nodded. “Bea is going to show you the intricacies of running a mission like this. It will be a great learning experience for you, Emme, as she’s one of the best.”

Beatrice snorted and rolled her eyes. “Oh, please, Zack, we both know I am the best,” the woman laughed.

“I would never argue with a lady, Bea.” He grinned back at her.

“You’ve learned a lot since you became a husband, Zack,” she demurred, and he nodded with a quirk of his eyebrow.

“Okay. Zin, Jace, please show Lance, Owen, and Shane where our gear is kept. I think, Lance, you and Zin might be the same size,” Zack said with a smirk and Emme laughed out loud causing Lance and Zin to glare at her.

Owen and Lance followed Jace and Zin out as Lucy walked with Zack to his office with Bea. Emme stayed seated a minute as she processed the plan.

Will walked over to her and sat on the edge of the desk. “You owe me breakfast,” he said as he crossed his arms over his chest. She looked up at him as Shane watched them from the corner of his eye as he talked to Dee.

“Why is that?”

Will leaned in close, a cheeky grin on his handsome face, his eyes dancing with mischief. “Because I was having breakfast cooked for me by a very sexy barmaid this morning when that message you set up pinged and ruined my entire morning, and I don’t just mean the breakfast.”

Emme snorted with laughter at his meaning. “Oh, I see. I’m sorry, Will. How about I bring breakfast every day for a week when this is over?”

“That might make me more agreeable.” He grinned before he leaned in to kiss her head. “Glad you’re okay, munchkin,” he said as he pushed off from the table, grabbed his laptop and walked out the room as Shane who was now standing where Will had been, glared at him.

“What was that about?” he asked, his jaw gritted tightly as he squeezed the bottle of water in his hand.

Emme tilted her head as she looked at him. “Apparently I ruined his morning if you know what I mean.” Emme laughed and she saw Shane’s shoulders relax and the breath he had been holding left him.

“Oh! Well, I know how he feels,” he said as he handed her the water. “Here, you need to keep drinking to flush the drugs from your system.”

She took the bottle and their hands brushed, electricity sizzling between them from just a touch. Her breath caught in her throat at the look in his eyes. Shane leaned down to her, cupping her face in his hand, his fingers pressing into her neck to angle her head up to him.

“You’re fucking beautiful,” he growled as his lips met hers in a sizzling kiss. Shane’s lips were soft but the way he kissed her was so dominant. He took from her like a starving man and she gave him everything—her trust, her passion, she gave it all. His hand trailed down her shoulder, his finger brushing the curve of her breast, making her moan into his mouth. He pulled her to standing and backed her up against the conference table, the hard ridge of his cock relieving the ache in her core.

“Seriously. How many times do I have to tell my staff no fucking on the conference table?” Zack bellowed over the speakers making her jump back.

Shane looked around in shock and then they both burst out laughing as they realised they had been close to fucking on the table and not caring. The thought made her wonder what else she would do for this man. Of course, her next thought was to wonder who the hell else had been having sex on the table which made her jump up quickly and look around.

Shane smiled and Emme saw the handsome man emerging. He was a contradiction, a puzzle she couldn’t work out because she didn’t have all the pieces yet, but she wanted them. She wanted to put this good-looking man back together.

“Come on, wife.”
