Zack saw Kanan stiffen and held out his hand to silence him. “If you hurt any of them I will take great pleasure in killing you. You know what? Fuck that. I will take great pleasure in killing you anyway.”
Hamilton laughed and then spoke, “I want you and the red-haired bitch to walk outside and get into the car on the street. The driver will bring you to me so that we can have a family reunion for you all. Don’t think about being clever or I will let you watch as your mother-in-law is raped by my men and then killed.”
Ava drew in a breath, and her face turned hard.
“Fine, I’ll come, but Ava stays here, and then I promise when I kill you I’ll do it painlessly.”
“This is not a negotiation. Come now or they die!” Hamilton hung up, and Zack hurled his phone across the room and pulled Ava into his arms.
“We’ll get them back honey, I promise.”
“I know you will,” she said quietly.
“Daniel, call the others back. I’m leaving this up to you now. I’ll activate the tracker when we reach a final destination.”
“We have this Zack. We’ll have you all home safe before you know it.”
Zack shook Daniel’s hand and felt a confidence in his team and the man he had as his second that reassured him. “I know you will man and we will be ready.”
Taking Ava’s hand, he marvelled that it didn’t shake at all, and he hated that he had to take her, but he was sensible enough to know that she would never risk her parent’s lives by not going. It was him that felt sick with worry. Having the love of his life put in danger and knowing he couldn’t control any of it was terrifying. “Remember your training and whatever you do, do not show this man your fear. He feeds off it.”
They reached the outer door and walked to the street with the entire team at his back. A car door opened on a Silver BMW and a large man got out. He was heavily armed and clearly paid muscle, Zack hoped all Hamilton’s men were, but he highly doubted it.
The man patted them both down without saying a word and then turned them both, zip-tying their hands. The man pushed them into the vehicle and told them not to speak.
Zack turned to Ava and winked, trying to instil some confidence in her. She weakly smiled back but looked determined.
