“My brilliant Bat King,” he breathes, fierce with joy. “Together we’re going to topple empires.”
“First,” I stand, carrying Freya in my arms, “we’ll take our Omega to our nest. We’ll spend the day in the royal vampire nest as mates should. By my fangs, after a quick tidy because a scorned vampire is a destructive one. Then tonight, we’re going to marry our Queen.”
CHAPTER SIX
Sin Audience Chamber, Blood Kingdom
Freya
I stand on the raised dais of the throne room with my arms outstretched. Violet ribbons are wrapped around both of my wrists. The ribbons rub over my soul bond marks in a way that must be driving Lanlin and Daire mad with desire. The thick, silky ribbons that wind around their wrists and bond marks are definitely making me shiver with desire.
I am ready to be bonded for life, claimed publicly as their Omega.
Daire smiles at me, reassuringly.
The ribbons bind us together like the points of a pyramid, as we stand in a triangle, joined by the ribbons in front of the gathered court.
I scrunch up my nose at the scent of citrus blossoms, which is mixed with the sweet resin from the guttering lamps.
The lamps hang on the walls, which are painted inky blue with scattered stars. Moonlight streams through the high windows in the four sides of the pyramid-shaped audience chamber.
I shift my bare feet on the cold floor, which is inlaid with tiles of turquoise, lapis lazuli, and gold-flecked ochre.
Shadow and Devil pad closer behind Lanlin, guarding him.
I still feel like I am in a dream world.
This morning, I awoke in Lanlin’s royal vampire nest.
Confused, I studied the reeds sticking out of the torn mattress between ripped ivory linens.
Lanlin must have taken out his rage on the bed.
Alphas do have a tendency to destroy their nests when they feel abandoned by their Omegas.
I sniffed at the bedding, hardly daring to believe that I was back with Lanlin.
I could feel two sets of wings around me, one feathery and the other like leather.
I had the brief awareness of someone cradling me to their hard chest, then of flying in their arms.
I sighed. “I am either dead or dreaming.”
“Never say that, dearheart,” a low voice purred.
Then someone brushed the hair from my face.
Suddenly, however, someone else nipped my lower lip.
My eyes snapped open. “This isn’t a dream.”
“Nay, we’re real.” Daire’s gaze met mine.
When I stared into his beautiful eyes, everything flooded back to me — how I was terrified that I would never see them again.
I lurched to sit up, throwing my arms around Daire’s neck. “You son of a dickless troll. Never ask me to do that again.” My voice became small. “I thought that I’d killed you.”
“You freed me. I’ll never forget it.” He pushed me gently back into the blankets, holding up his seared wrists. “Anyway, I’m hard to kill.”
