“Like you with your personalities, when I put this mask on, I become a god. I am something more, untouchable.”
I stare at him, at the craziness that is just pouring out of him.
But the memories have reminded me of something very, very basic.
We fought. Even when we lost everything, even when it cost us everything, we still fought this monster.
He’s not invincible. We fought him. Robin fought him.
I was trained by the best, and I know that he isn’t infallible.
My sister proved that when she was just a kid.
I’m going to win, for all of us.
So no child ever ends up here again.
Sage
The property is enormous, but when we see the dark, tomblike shape of the warehouse, I just know that’s where he’s got her. It’s like a gothic castle. Just something an egotist like this would love.
Blaze wrenches the wheel in that direction, taking us over there. It takes forever, but then we’re slamming to a stop, everyone exploding out of the car. The wind is warm, and the air carries the scent of violence, decay, and blood.
I don’t wait for my pack, I head towards a huge black hole that is the open doors, only to stop when people step into the space, blocking the way. Burly idiots who want to die. Who are between me and my omegas.
Not today.
“Are you kidding me?” I snarl.
“Oh, disciples of crazy, how cute,” Blaze says with a tiny, dreamy smile. “Go deal with it, honey.”
I cast him a reproachful look but rush in, moving so quickly that they are stunned into stillness until they realise I’ve put three on the floor. I elbow the fourth, breaking his nose and taking his weapon, shooting him in the throat.
I dispassionately watch as the others struggle.
“You are between me and my omegas. Do you really want to stay there?”
They glance at each other but don’t move.
“So be it.”
I dive into them using all the training my parents taught me. I’m cold, I’m empty. All I have is this horrible thought that my omegas are on the other side of this line of enemies. I break a knee, steal another weapon, and empty the clip into his head, then I slam the butt into the face of the guy who is trying to stab me.
He falls back, spitting out a mouthful of teeth and blood. I grab his head and twist sharply. With a crack, his life is gone, and he collapses onto the ground.
“Baby, there are three more over there.” Blaze points out with perfect poise.
I cast an even more reproachful look. “You could help.”
“I’m saving myself.”
“You aren’t a virginal bride, Blaze!” I snap.
Blaze laughs. King mutters something, but before he can speak, Roseland is there, and my god, the alpha can move with grace.
He’s vicious and violent in all the sexiest ways. He ends up pressed against my back, fighting with me, and it’s the most right thing that ever was.
“I knew we’d do some brotherly bonding sooner or later.”
