“You are so wet, Theo,” he growled. “I hope that’s all for me.”

Slipping his hand down farther, the heel of his palm found her clit, making Theo’s heart jump. Her fingers curled around his arm even more, the rush of pleasure surging through her as he did it over and over, making it hard to breathe.

“Yes!” she shouted, throwing her head back. She had no idea if it was in response to his question or what his hand was doing, but she didn’t care. Nothing else in the world mattered right now other than how he was making her feel.

“That’s my good girl. And good girls are rewarded.”

Before Theo could blink, Cowboy slid a finger inside her, filling her up. She let out a moan—or was that a groan—that was louder than she had intended. Fingertip swirling in her entrance, he slowly added a second, quickly finding that hidden spot inside her. Theo was sure she would burst at any moment. His mouth kissed along her jaw, one hand holding her hip still as the other worked her pussy like he was Beethoven playing the piano. Her body felt like a symphony right about now too. All the notes coming together, a beautiful melodic sound filling the air.

When Cowboy’s thumb swiped across her clit, Theo knew her crescendo was coming. The subtle movement made her knees weak, her legs feeling like jelly. Hell, all of her was starting to feel like jelly. If it wasn’t for Cowboy having her pinned against this tree, his deliciously hard body holding her in place, she was sure she would be a puddle right now. His hand moved in all the right ways, and the feeling building inside of her was going to overflow at any moment. It was all she could think about, her mind totally blank other than the intense waves of pleasure that were rolling through her.

Cowboy increased the pace of his thumb circling her clit, his two fingers inside her giving the secret spot a little tap—like he was sending a message in Morse code. He must have been, because that was all her body needed to launch into the atmosphere. Theo let out a cry, her fingers digging into Cowboy, holding on for dear life as her climax hit her from every angle. There wasn’t a single inch of her that wasn’t on fire and falling apart all at once. Her eyes snapping shut, stars flashed behind her eyelids as another wave of pleasure washed over her.

“Oh my God,” she cried, feeling her knees buckle.

The hand that had been holding her hip wrapped around her waist, pulling her whole body to his. Cowboy kissed her—hard at first, then softening as he drew it out. As her orgasm subsided, so did the contact from his fingers. She missed it instantly, even though the aftershocks were still running through her.

A moment later, her heart finally starting to slow down, she drew back from Cowboy, just enough to see his face. She knew she had a cheesy smile on her face, but it was nothing compared to the impish one he was currently sporting. Glee bubbled up inside her, forcing her to bite back a giggle. The wild look in his eyes told her he was feeling the exact same way—and she liked it way more than she knew she should.

Cowboy waggled his eyebrows as he brought his hand to his mouth. The hand that had just been inside her. Sticking out his tongue, he slowly licked his fingers, then inserted them into his mouth, the same way he had when the ice cream had dripped on them earlier. Theo’s mouth fell open, watching this insanely sexy man lick her off himself.

Fuck, that was hot.

“I really should get you home now,” he said.

“Errr, umm, yeah,” she stumbled, really not sure what else to say.

She made quick work of buttoning herself up and running her fingers through her hair, wanting to look at least somewhat normal when they got back to the main street of town. As they walked along the sidewalk toward the parking lot, a new wave of self-consciousness rolled in. The normal, controlled Theo was back, the wild child who’d made out with her teenage crush pushed back deep inside her. Cowboy took hold of her hand, intertwining their fingers, giving her a knowing smile and a wink. She liked the way she felt when she was with him. Promising herself she wasn’t going to overthink this, she tried to push it from her mind and just enjoy the moment. Just be a girl, hanging out with a boy, like Cowboy had said earlier. After all, it wasn’t every night someone gave you the best orgasm of your life up against a live oak.

And it had absolutely been the best orgasm of her life.

Chapter Twelve

Hot water rushed over Theo’s body, the fancy multi-setting shower head set to full blast, doing its best to loosen her thoughts. Usually by this time of morning she’d been up for a while, her mind active and ready for the day. The shower was often where she got her best thoughts—as if something about cascading water made ideas sprout from her mind. Today, however, was a different story.

Her mind was running wild, that was for sure. It just wasn’t her normal, fruitful, productive line of thinking that her morning routine produced. No, this time, it was something much, much more intense.

The expression “slept like a rock” would be an understatement if there ever was one for what she’d done last night. She couldn’t remember the last time she’d slept that well. Usually it took a carefully crafted ritual—one that included a sleep aid—to get her to wind down enough to be able to drift into slumber. Apparently that ritual had nothing on Britt Callahan's fingers. One orgasm from him, and she was asleep as soon as her head hit the pillow.

You not only made out with the man—in public—but you let him finger bang you up against a tree. Are you out of your damn mind?! Yes, yes you are, because after that finger bang you just hopped right back up on his bike…

The ride home had been just as amazing as the ride up to Blue Ridge. Maybe even more so. There was a new closeness between her and Cowboy—not to mention the rumble of his bike between her legs on her well-worked lady bits—that gave the ride a different feel. A feel that she wasn’t sure that she understood.

Because you learned nothing from Tim. Nothing. You are not that kind of girl. You are a serious, professional journalist. Get your act together…

She was right. It didn’t matter how she felt about that ride now. Or any of last night. She had a job to do. That was where her focus needed to be.

Except Cowboy had opened up to her. Had told her all about Dulcie, about why he distrusted the media the way he did. And she couldn’t blame him for those feelings in any way. If she’d experienced what he had, she probably would have done that same thing. Maybe worse.

Guilt rose in her stomach again as she cut off the water, running her hands over her hair to wring out some of the excess moisture. Pulling back the shower curtain and grabbing her towel, she tried to decide just what that guilt was about. Was it the fact that she’d badgered Cowboy the same way all those reporters had badgered his aunt and family when he was a child? Or the fact that she’d succumbed to his charms and let him feel her up under a tree? Some combination of both?

The tree, definitely the tree. That wasn’t who she was. The badgering? Well, that wasn’t really her either, but it was the job. And she was a reporter first, woman second. No, not even second. Last. There were all sorts of other things that needed to come before all that. Like winning that Sports Press Award.

A loud clang rang out from the direction of her kitchen, followed by what sounded like a muffled curse, making Theo freeze. All the heat from her shower seemed to disappear instantly, her blood running cold.

Someone was in her apartment.

Fuck. Shit, fuck, fuck, fuck…
