“Hi, Ms. Richardson. I’m going to get you set up for your ultrasound.”
I looked at Rayzor then back at her.
“Already? I thought it would take a while. He just ordered it.”
“Shit. That was too long if you ask me. I’ve been ready since Doc said it,” Rayzor added.
She smiled. “We work pretty fast around here.”
Rayzor stood up, grabbed my hand and waited for the next steps.
“You good?”
I nodded.
The room got too quiet.
The nurse moved around in the background. The sonographer programmed the machine, and in a couple of minutes I was shifting and positioning myself on the table. My heart was pounding so hard I felt it in my ears.
The sonographer lifted my gown and placed gel on it. “Are you comfortable?”
“Yes.”
She moved the wand around and the gel started heating up.
Rayzor kissed the top of my head.
Thump. Thump. Thump.
I froze.
“What’s that?” Rayzor asked.
“That’s your baby’s heartbeat,” I told him through tears.
His hand tightened around mine.
“That’s my baby.” His voice cracked. “Damn, that’s my baby with that strong ass heartbeat.”
“Yes, it is,” the sonographer stated.
“That’s our baby in there, baby,” he said, trying to remain strong.
“Based on gestational measurements, I’d say you’re about fourteen weeks.”
I dropped my head back on the pillow, staring at the ceiling. That blindsided me.
“Fourteen?”
“How long is that in pregnancy, three months?” Rayzor asked.
I was searching in my mind about how the hell I ended up this pregnant when we didn’t get back together until recently. That meant I got pregnant when we were broken up.
“Three and a half months,” the sonographer stated.
My eyes moved up toward Rayzor.
“Damn, you weren’t even fucking with me like that. But that spin back got that kick back.”
