Cheating on his fiancée with the woman who was, at the time, my girlfriend. Scheming to marry the same woman he scorned just so he can be rich for the rest of his life without having to work. Barging into the penthouse, demanding to see her.

Maybe this is my fault.

Maybe I should have settled down when he was younger. Or stayed married to his mother. Then again, what choice did I have? She tried to embezzle ten million from me and run off to Spain with her yoga instructor.

Finding a truly loyal woman when you’re as wealthy as I am is a task in itself.

But when I look at Katie, walking like a goddess by my side, I know that I’ve finally found the one.

Stopping, I take her hand. “I love you. You know that?”

She gasps audibly and stares up at me. She was not expecting that. But truthfully, neither was I. It just came out, as naturally as saying my name.

“I want you to know before we go inside and the shit hits the fan,” I say.

Her lips are trembling, and her adorable eyes are so wide. The wind blows a few strands of hair over her face, which somehow makes her even more beautiful.

“I love you too, Robert.” Tears well up in her eyes, but she keeps herself from crying. “I was starting to wonder if I’d ever find someone I could truly love. And then I found you.”

“We found each other,” I reply.

Eyes watering, she reaches up and grabs my neck, pulling me in for a kiss.

“I’ll mess up your lipstick,” I whisper.

“I don’t care.”

We kiss, and it’s like a lifetime of desire exploding at once. It’s hard to believe I’ve only truly known Katie for a few days. But my love for her is so powerful…I’ve never been more sure of anything in my life.

There’s nothing I wouldn’t do for her. And she knows that.

“All right,” I say. “Let’s do this.”

Katie grins and squeezes my hand as we walk up to the door. I hear everyone’s voices from the study. They all look up as we walk in.

I almost burst out laughing when I see their expressions. Mom is looking at me like I’ve lost my mind, and the girls both have different looks of disgust on their faces. Kyle looks like it’s taking every ounce of willpower he has not to walk over and hit me.

I almost wish he’d try…

“Ah, now that Mr. Reed is finally here, we can begin the proceedings.” Johnathan, our family lawyer, smiles from his seat at the wide mahogany table. I’ve known him long enough to know that he wants to get this done as quickly as possible so he can get home to watch one of the countless football games he’s got recorded.

“Is everyone ready to get started?” he asks.

“Yes,” I reply. “We are.”

I pull a chair up beside my mom and give her a kiss on the cheek. She gives me the death stare.

“She’s your son’s fiancée! They’re getting married!”

I give her a knowing smile. “Ah, I guess Kyle didn’t tell you the whole story.”

Mom frowns. “Story? What story?”

Katie sits down beside me, and I place a hand on her knee. My heartbeat rises as I think back to last night and the final piece of our plan coming together…

“You sure you want to be here for this?” Katie asks. “I know it’s fake, but I still wouldn’t want to hear you say something like this to another woman.”

Smiling, I pull her into my lap and slide a hand up her shirt. We just had sex in the shower, and I still can’t stop touching her.
