Those five words were like a bottle of chilled soda in the sweltering summer heat. It was so refreshing to hear that from her. She reminded me of my mum but I did not feel nostalgic. It was like finally finding the missing piece in a jigsaw puzzle. She compliments me so well.

I’m not exactly a guy that was big on mushy feelings. I wasn’t big on relationships either but I met Vanessa and everything changed. I wanted to be a man she would be proud of, a Daddy she would feel most appreciated with; heck, one she would love to spend the rest of her life with.

We held each other for what nearly seemed like an eternity until Vanessa reminded me that our food was getting cold.

I carried her to the dining table and dragged a chair to face her. She giggled, looking at me but avoiding my eyes. I loved when she got all shy like that. Vanessa is absolutely adorable when she slips into littlespace.

I brought a large bowl of the warm rice noodles and proceeded to feed her small forkfuls of the noodles, dabbing at her mouth occasionally, when the soup dribbled on her chin.

Just patting her, petting her, holding her, feeding her, was giving me much more pleasure than I thought was possible. I’d be lying if I ever denied my love for Vanessa Sanders. We had finished eating a long while ago but I found myself looking at her, silent, just getting lost in the magnificent piece of art that was her face.

“Why are you looking at me like that, Daddy?”

“No reason, Darling. You’re just too adorable and Daddy really loves you. You know that right?”

I found myself laughing watching Vanessa nod enthusiastically. “Come on, it’s past your bedtime. Let’s go to bed.”

With that, I bundled her up, ignoring her cries of, “No, I don’t want to go to bed yet! No …”

I heaved her up the stairs to my room and dumped her on the large bed. I had not been in here since the morning I left to the base and it seemed only fitting that I was back with the last person I was in here with.

Vanessa was already falling asleep, despite her earlier cries of not wanting to sleep just yet. I brushed some of her hair away from her face, lovingly, wondering how she managed to bring out this side of me– this side that I did not even know was lurking within me, waiting to be let out to explore…

CHAPTER TEN

Vanessa

I woke up to a very excited Oscar holding up two of my dresses. “Hey, sleepyhead! I’m going to work with you today so I’m definitely going to help you pick out what you’d wear… so, the purple or the grey?”

I rubbed my groggy eyes, wondering what in the world was Oscar doing. He seemed to be on cloud nine, whistling and laughing and just generally being hyper.

“Hey, Oscar…You seem really bubbly today,” I asked him, finding myself smiling also, amused at the boyish way he wafted about the house, putting things in order. I knew that guys usually experienced the whole morning-after excitement but I don’t think that was the right term to classify Oscar’s, because we only cuddled all night long– I got an amazing night rest as a result, though.

When we both showed up at the office building later that morning, getting his hands off me was a tad difficult. He kept holding me, poking me, arranging my hair– just generally very upbeat and naughty somewhat, seeing how he grabbed my ass in front of a group of my colleagues.

I chided him for being so unbridled in the way he kept holding and handling me but this soldier boy did not seem to care or mind at all. Not like I was uncomfortable with it, but the attention was just so much, given his status in the company.

I got rather shy when he showed up at my office door, insisting we go out for lunch. I was going through the spreadsheet depicting the company’s finances for the last quarter for the second time, smiling to myself, satisfied that there were no discrepancies whatsoever when I saw Oscar’s grinning face pop in by the door of my office.

“Oi! Workaholic! Psst!”

He clearly got my attention with that, eliciting unexpected laughter that almost made me choke and fall off my chair.

“Gosh, Oscar ! I’m really not a workaholic, you know. And I know that you know…so why are you teasing me, you?” I said amidst giggles.

He strutted into my office and sat on my desk, reaching out to pull my seat from it’s normal position to opposite him on the side he sat on.

“So what do you say? Lunch at Reynolds'?”

Lunch sounded like an incredibly good idea, because the toast and eggs we had for breakfast had conveniently disappeared from my stomach, leaving smoldering hunger in its place.

“Fine by me!” I glanced at the clock and saw it was an hour after noon. Lunch was definitely welcome then.

Reynolds' was a very short drive from the office building so we were there in about four minutes or so. It was supposed to be just lunch but Oscar at was bent on having me sample what he called the stars of their menu, three different meals actually.

“No, you must actually try out their stuffed duck. Exquisite, I tell you!”

“I think I’m fine with the curried rice and chicken. I couldn’t possibly eat all of …” the loud vibration of his phone cut off my talking and we both turned to look at the phone.
