“Of course. Besides, it’s not like anyone asks me anything. I always stick to the background and am practically invisible to my father. My sister is the one with the weight of the throne on her shoulders. My middle sister is the runner-up, and I’m considered the one being swept under the rug because the backup of the backup is practically unnecessary. Which is fine by me,” I rattle and shrug.
Karev shakes his head. “No one is going to sweep you under the damn rug. Never again. You’re the VP’s old lady, the mate of an alpha hellhound.”
I shoot him a grin. “That’s considered sweeping my big sister off her throne, right?”
He snickers and all too soon gives me a serious look. “I believe you will, especially with what I’m about to tell you. Now, my half-sister was pulled into this shit, and let’s stick with the fact that the coins ended up in her possession without knowing. She put them aside with some medals and didn’t know the value of the coins, or the fact that they were stolen. Some people were after the coins and kidnapped Floraline, my half-sister, and one of your father’s men who went undercover working for her. She called me in distress. I was too far away, but the vice president of the Nowalk chapter, was close.”
“Heart,” I murmur, remembering the name written on the back of the picture I found earlier.
“Heart,” he echoes. “When I found Rob tortured to death in the woods, I knew he was a werewolf and that’s how I linked the coins to your father. It’s why I showed up on your father’s doorstep to make sure Floraline stayed out of the mess. Lina is human.”
I can feel my eyes widen in surprise. “Human?”
“Human,” he repeats with a twitch of his lips. “She was originally a hellhound. Now she’s a human who doesn’t feel any pain, and luckily still has some healing abilities since she does heal faster than humans, and what I’m about to tell you...you really can’t mention to anyone. I only recently told Sevrin, and no one else knows.”
My head bobs as if my life depends on it. I’ve never heard about a supernatural having a human sibling. My sisters and I are homeschooled, and I’ve only heard and read about supernatural beings, along with human history. I’m intrigued by the things Karev just shared, especially when he mentioned he never told anyone except Sevrin...and now me.
He decides to confide in me. Me. Where everyone has basically ignored me all my life, my mate does the exact opposite.
CHAPTER NINE
– KAREV –
She’s so damn gorgeous with her wide and intriguing eyes, hanging onto every damn word I tell her. So. Damn. Innocent. Fucking hell, I can’t believe Calvania sheltered his daughters, keeping them away from the whole damn world.
“My father accepted an arranged marriage. Reasons for this are many. Forged bloodlines, alliances, no fated mate and after decades of waiting he needed to create offspring. Hence the arranged marriage to secure alpha hellhounds. There was no love between my parents, and my father fucked around on my mother. Which resulted in him impregnating the maid. Lower-class hellhounds, bastard kids, were a disgrace. Which is why he took me with him to make sure the twins were dumped for adoption in another state without a trace of a connection to my father.”
“Yikes. What a screwed-up situation, and why would a father put that kind of burden on his own son? Ugh. Bound by blood, to make sure no one knew and he couldn’t dump them himself. What an asshole,” Lea grumbles.
I nod. “He paid the highest price for it, though. With his head when my mother beheaded him in his sleep.”
Her eyes go wide, a look I’ve seen a few times now. “Holy freaking shit. For real?”
“Years later once she found out. Yes. She built a guillotine to take her own life.” I release a sigh, remembering that night I found them, right after Lina showed up when she was fourteen years old.
What my mother did wasn’t on my half-sister; my father made his own choices, as did my mother.
Lea reaches out and covers my hand with hers. “I’m sorry.”
“Which is why I’ve never shot my load inside a woman’s cunt,” I blurt, and wince.
Way to share this little detail.
She narrows her eyes. “So, you’ve been with other women, but just kept your sperm to yourself.”
My lips part and yet no words come out. I rub a hand over my face and wonder how this damn conversation turned into my sexual experiences.
Releasing a sigh, I study the blanket I’m sitting on while I admit, “Basically? Yes. Blow jobs only, making sure the human swallows.”
There’s no way I can look my fated mate in the eye while I fucking tell her that another woman had her mouth on me. Even more when the mate in question is the judge and juror of jealousy. Blondie merely mentioning a blow job and touching my forearm is a prime example of how well she takes these things.
“You won’t be doing anything with another woman again.” Her voice is as hard as steel.
Raising my eyes to meet her bright green ones I firmly state, “Only you from here on out.”
She must see the truth in my eyes because after a few heartbeats she nods and asks, “You mentioned that Floraline was a hellhound, but she’s human? You also said twins. What happened? And how did your mother find out after years and then turn all murder suicide?”
“Twin lower-level hellhounds. There were complications during the birth. The mother died, and when my father cut open her belly to save the children...we didn’t see two normal babies, only one while the other had shifted and was killing his sister. I believed Floraline died in the womb, and used all her supernatural strength that was left to heal her body. Which is why she’s human. Her brother stole her strength to make sure he survived, giving him some boost because I watched him grow another fucking head.”
