I'm about to move in when my girl releases herself from his grip, takes her hand out of his, and makes a show of wiping his slobber on his practice jersey. “It’s nice to meet you too, Conor.” She smiles innocently at him, lowering her voice so not many can hear. “But touch me like that again and I'll show you how I use hockey sticks.”
The guys close enough to hear whistle and laugh and Matthews’ face turns the same shade as a tomato.
Shit, this woman. Full of surprises. I huff a laugh, proud of my girl. She doesn't need me protecting her around here.
After that, a few more of the guys say hello, respectfully, might I add. “Right boys, back to it.” Coach calls. “It’s nice to meet you, Olivia. I'm looking forward to working with you.”
“One more thing while I have everyone's attention.” Katherine says, wrapping her arm around Olivia’s shoulder and smiles at us. “I’m only going to say this once. No one and I mean no one,” she looks towards Knight and Matthews, “will be going anywhere near this one.” She squeezes Olivia tight, who looks like she wants to be swallowed into the ground. “She’s a good girl. She doesn't need to be corrupted by your… excuse my French here but… your shit. I know what you boys are like. We don't need anymore scandals where staff are concerned, so keep it in your pants. Got it?”
We all nod in unison. Trying to hide my smile I look away, if only she knew.
“I'm sure Cap here will keep you all in line.” Shit.
“Yes, ma’am.” I salute her.
Damn, I'm in dangerous territory here. With one last wink in Olivia's direction when no one is looking, I skate back to my teammates, gathering our gloves and helmets.
Getting back onto the ice, Michaelson appears at my side. “You didn't." He says, a look that says ‘are you shitting me’ on his face.
“What are you talking about?” I question him.
“Don’t give me that, Josh. What happened to ending it?”
“We did end it.”
“Really? Because you were practically undressing each other over there. You had that I saw you naked last night look on your face.”
“Fuck. Do you think anyone noticed?”
“Considering everyone else couldn't keep their eyes off her, I'd say you're in the clear. For now.”
I run my hands through my hair. “I went over to her place last night to end it, but I couldn't. I know it would be best but Daniel, I can't end this with her. She's perfect. She's unbelievable and she wants me too. How can we stop this now when it's barely even started?”
“All I'm saying here is, be careful. I've never seen you act like this with a girl before. I don't want to see you get hurt.”
“She’s worth it.”
“As long as you're sure, Cap. Just think about it.”
But I've already thought about it and I know there's no going back now.

Not long after Josh left I was woken up by the sound of my phone ringing. Katherine was on the other end, asking me to come in for a tour of the stadium before I started work on Monday.
I was exhausted, my hair a mess and I felt dirty, in the best way possible might I add.
Getting up, showered and dressed in record time, I made my way to the stadium. Nervous as hell because of the thought of starting a new job, but also having to see the man who made me come more than once mere hours ago while having to act like I don't know him.
God, I hope I can pull it off. I have been told once or twice that I'd make a brilliant actress but that's normally when I'm being overly dramatic about something. To be fair, I am good.
Katherine was very sweet when she met me at the door. She showed me around the offices at the far side of the stadium. I was honestly surprised at how big the offices are and the fact I'll be getting my own office, even though I'll be working in the field or the ice most of the time. I was happily shocked.
As we made our way to where the hockey players were practicing, my heart rate picked up speed, butterflies fluttering around my stomach.
Katherine could tell something was off. She just assumed I was a hockey fan and obsessing over meeting the players like some sort of crazed fan girl. She couldn’t be more wrong. Anything but guessing the real reason for my nervous stutter and rosey cheeks.
