“We can’t force him to stay Christian, he is already suffering enough. He still won’t talk to Lilian and even she has been over here at the house every day helping with taking care of him and watching over him.” That said a lot for my grandmother because her and my mother’s relationship wasn’t too good. They smoothed out most of their issues but still had lots of disagreements. My grandfather never divorced Lilian after she broke his heart by cheating on one of his old friends who turned into an enemy. My mother hardly ever referred to her as a mom, she always called her by her first name. I tried to respect her, but the lady was hard to get along with, before I knew it, I had started to refer to her as Lilian too.

“I’ll be there as soon as I wrap business up out here in the Republic.” I sadly said my goodbyes and sat on the balcony looking at nothing in particular. If my grandfather died my family would break. I didn’t know what to expect from my mother because she had fucked up ways of coping with bad things that happened to her. I would have to put Solo and Solace in charge of a lot to sort and deal with my family issues, I just hoped they both were ready.

I couldn’t really depend on Solace as much, something about him hasn’t been settling well with me. In the back of my mind, I knew Solace truly wanted to be the head nigga in charge. He would never fill my shoes unless I gave him the go for that. I just couldn’t trust him enough; his judgment was off when it came to a lot of things. Solo on the other hand was as thorough as they came, he lived and breathed the streets before I even put him on. He could make decisions without thinking twice and all those decisions were for the best.

More thoughts of my grandfather came to the forefront of my mind. I had to prepare for the worse. I scanned the beach and looked for Reaper, she was nowhere in sight. I must’ve been so caught up in my thoughts that I didn’t see her walking away. Tonight, I planned on getting drunk and turning up with Solo. At the end of the night, I wanted two bad bitches in my bed on some freak nasty shit. Life was truly what you made it. We all were in control of our own shit with the choices we made. The only thing we couldn’t be in control of was death, when it was ready for you it came. It didn’t give a fuck about the people you left behind, what you did, or how much money you had. Death didn’t even give a fuck about all the power you possessed or if you had another goal to achieve. When it was ready for you, it came.

I looked at life as if it had different realms, like we had to go through human form before we even made it to the next level of living. I felt like it was more to see after living on earth. If I had it my way, I would want to die at the same time of everyone I loved. That way, we didn’t have to miss each other or be consumed with so much sorrow. We could just all hold hands and make it to that next realm together. Wishful thinking.

Chapter Fourteen

SOLACE

Looking over my shoulders, I jogged up the apartment steps with my head down. Knocking two times on the door, I stepped back and waited for these young niggas to open. These little niggas were ruthless and after all the fuck shit Solo had pulled at the recreation center, I just prayed I made it out alive. A big nigga that was way taller answered the door with a mug on his face. He kicked my feet apart with his big-ass steel-toe boots and patted me down checking for guns.

“He in the second bedroom, down the hall waiting for yo’ bitch ass.” He opened the door and pushed me in. This bitch ass nigga just didn’t know how the fuck I gave it up. When I had the time and chance, he would be the first person that I sought out to kill. I walked in the living room and saw nothing but drugs and money sitting on the coffee table. Two sexy broads sat at the edge of the couch with no bra on counting money at a rapid pace. One nigga bagged up the drugs, while another nigga kept his shotgun locked in his hand with it resting on his shoulder. The apartment was clean but reeked of the streets.

Not wanting to look to long, I made my way down the hallway until I came across a door that had another young nigga standing on guard, who mean-mugged me the same as the first nigga did at the front door. Stepping to the side, he allowed me inside of the bedroom. When I entered Debo sat in the corner of the room watching two exotic-looking females in the middle of his bed giving each other head, while a white chick bobbed up and down on his dick. His gray eyes looked up at me with a deadly expression, sending chills and fear down my spine.

Clapping both his hands together, both the women stopped as the white girl kept going at a rapid pace.

“Shit bitch, gon’ and swallow that nut then.” He grunted, grabbing a handful of hair, he slammed her head up and down. She coughed, choked, and gagged until he made a loud growling sound. Pulling her head away from his lap, he grabbed his dick and shot nut all over her chest and face.

“Damn daddy you know I like swallowing that sweet nut.” She smiled as the other girls got off the bed looking disappointed that they couldn’t finish what they were into.

“Y’all bitches go wait in the next room while I deal with this nigga.” He stuffed his limp dick inside of his Dickie shorts and snatched up a pack of cigarettes. After getting adjusted with a lighter in hand he lit the tip of it and stared at me hard before speaking.

“Everything in motion, right?” I nodded my head up and down, feeling sick to my stomach. I had no other choice but to turn on my boy for the safety of my kids.

“Speak nigga!” his voice elevated, causing me to jump and him to chuckle.

“Yea everything is good, our soldiers are transporting the guns and drugs as we speak make sure your boys on the water and ready for the attack. Its only three of them niggas guarding that shit.”

“Nigga don’t worry about my fuckin’ crew, worry about getting your boss to understand that everybody ain’t got to check in with his ass. See the way to a nigga’s heart is his pockets, Solo killed four of my best runners. Me being the real nigga I am had to pay for all of their funeral expenses. I still got to pay for my school shit as well nigga and an education ain’t cheap! So, this should serve as a warning to that nigga Solo and Ream. Fuck with my money, I either kill or steal.” His smile pained me in a way. Ream had been getting on my nerves a lot lately and testing my gangsta. I never wanted to betray him, but Debo left me no choice.

When Solo’s bitch ass pulled that crazy ass move killing those four young men at our recreation center. Debo was waiting for me the next day when I got home. He had my wife hogtied along with my kids. To show how much of a sick nigga he was, he had two niggas fuck my wife in front of my kids. That broke me and I swore on everything I loved to get back at Solo for being reckless. He didn’t think how that shit would affect others. Now Ream would take a big loss. On that boat was one hundred and thirty pounds of cocaine worth two point million. The guns were worth a lot as well, but the drugs outweighed how much the guns were worth. I didn’t think Debo understood that he would cause a war. Ream would stop at absolutely nothing to erase this nigga’s whole existence.

“You sure you want to do this man? I told you who was responsible for this shit. I know where he lives and can take you right to that nigga Solo when they make it back to the states.” I tried to plead for the last time.

“I don’t give a fuck who did it Solace, you really try to live up to your name when you ain’t shit but a pussy ass rat! In this business, the boss takes accountability for what his soldiers do on the account of him. So, what do you think Ream has to do? See, I ain’t tryna take over no nigga’s organization. I’m just tryna stack my bread with no handouts. You think I want to come to you every single time that nigga Ream step on my toes with some shit?”

He stared at me and chuckled while flicking his cigarette butt my way. It landed right on my forehead stinging me before it fell to the floor. I was the one that put Debo on with Armando. Solo offered to sell Debo products in the beginning, but he didn’t like the prices that were offered. It made him angrier when Solo tried to punk Debo by telling him he couldn’t move work unless it came from the dynasty. I knew all about Armando and how he often fronted young niggas work because he didn’t like or fuck with Ream nor his bloodline. I referred Debo to him to spite Solo and the hopes of Ream thinking Solo was the rat that gave up Armando’s number.

Ream not once looked at Solo, so that was a waste of fucking time. Now, this nigga was nothing short of a bully. He was actually crazy as fuck but smart as hell. He was going to school to be a lawyer and word around town was he came from a wealthy family but didn’t want any handouts from his family. In Ream’s eyes, he was nothing but a broke bum type of nigga. Ream’s judgment was wrong, something led me to believe that Debo was smarter than we all thought, and I also had a feeling that he would soon become a bigger problem.

“Is that all man, I’ve been here for too long?” I was ready to go. For a whole week, I had been practicing in the mirror like a little bitch how my reaction would be when Ream called that meeting. Ream kept his cool no matter what the situation was. He could smile and just murder you without blinking or getting riled up. He was a great observer he loved to observe and watch people’s body language while controlling his.

“Yea, you can go for now my nigga. Good looking, and don’t forget if shit don’t fall through and one of my men don’t make it off that water alive. My niggas gone have another field day with your wife.” I cringed trying to rid my mind of the devasted look that was plastered on my kid’s and wife faces. I nodded my head and walked briskly down the hallway until I reached the front door.

I was happy just to have a fresh breath of air, as I jogged to my car and made my way to Kat’s house. I felt bad not too bad the way I saw it, Ream had a lot of money, and this would put a dent in all the money he had put away. It wouldn’t fuck with none of our pay either. The thing that would make him react was his pride and feeling violated. Ream didn’t like to look bad in front of anyone. When they sat down and had that meeting with Hector, I imagined Ream giving that cocky ass smile but, on the inside, he would be flaming hot. The last thing he wanted to appear like was weak. Like his team didn’t have shit together or like he wasn’t running things right. Older men like Hector didn’t like doing business that brought on too much attention. This would surely be attention-grabbing making him reject doing business ever again with Ream.

I pulled up to Kat’s house and peeped out my surrounding before hopping out. I was paranoid hoping Debo didn’t have any niggas following me. I was already making plans to move my family out of the house we lived in. I just couldn’t move too soon on that making Ream suspicious of me. I had my family staying in a fucking hotel because they were scared shitless about going back to the home we shared. My wife couldn’t stand the sight of me, and I could barely look her in the eyes after failing miserably to protect her and my kids.

Using my spare key to let myself inside Kat’s house, I didn’t bother knocking because I knew once she looked through the peephole and saw that it was me, she wouldn’t have opened the door. Opening the door, I was hit with those sweet-smelling candles that she loved to burn while she smoked weed. She sat on the couch looking sexy as hell with a bonnet covering her head. When her eyes landed on me, she rolled her eyes, while I stared her down.

“Where are my kids at?” my eyes landed on her thick yellow thighs. Kat was short and on the chubby side, but her face was angelic.

“The kids you don’t even claim nor acknowledge? Oh, those kids. They’re out with their supposed father.” She sat up on the couch and ashed her blunt while staring me down.
