His jaw tightened. I noticed it immediately, but I wasn’t about to back down now since he made me feel so exposed with his choice of words.

“Loyalty before emotion…right?” I exhaled softly, chest tight. “You don’t even know which version of yourself is real anymore… all you know is your role as Capo… all the dirty wealth your sitting on… with a long list of bad bitches you tricking on…creating useless soul ties with mutha fuckas that wouldn’t even use their spit to put your burning internal fire out.”

Silence filled the space between us. His eyes locked onto mine, heavy and intense. Like my words hit somewhere deep he didn’t let people see. For a moment, neither of us spoke. My own emotions were still rattled; my heart still beat a little too fast for my liking. There was no doubt in my mind that Royal was as dangerous and lethal as they come.

We sat as two strangers across from one another, reading each other like unfinished stories. With me though, I was the cliffhanger that he never imagined landing on.

Royal cleared his throat then slowly slid out of the booth. My eyes had a mind of their own, instantly I hated it. My gaze fell on the thick and meaty muscle straining against the crotch of his navy-blue dress pants.

Cockily, he grabbed it and gave it a firm squeeze.

“Damn.” He shut his eyes for a beat before opening. “I’m...what’s that word I’m looking for—” He snapped his fingers an inch away from his face like he was really searching for something.

“Smitten… Yeah, that’s the word. You got me hella smitten, ma. Maybe I should have listened to Brutal and got to the point of my visit because this—” He pointed between us. “This shit right here is dangerous as fuck.” He smirked.

He tucked both hands into his pockets before nodding his head in recognition.

“You were right about a couple of things, Amaris Jovonni Reed.” He licked his lips.

My breathing turned shallow.

“A nigga like me been yearning to feel something… I like to feel shit raw and potently. Something tells me if I feel you, I’ll become addicted, and that’s not a good thing, so…” He clicked his tongue against the roof of his mouth loudly.

“Tell your daddy Maniac to get at me ASAP. I love to show face a week ahead of time before things get nasty. I don’t want that, Amaris… and I’m a hundred percent sure you don’t want that for good ol Jeremiah’s sake.” He laughed humorlessly.

“With what he owes…” He shook his head now like a disappointed parent. “I can turn Spike’s lounge into a high-end strip club. I’d say fuck a dress code, come in this bitch ass naked then create more useless soul ties with hoes off trickin’.” He took a step away from the booth.

All the blood drained from my face. Royal stood so tall in front of me, I had to tilt my head back just to look up at him.

“It was nice meeting you, Breasturant. I hope to never see you again, and if I do…. I hope the view is different… a view with them long thick legs spread wide open and them big ass titties touchin’ yo fuckin’ shoulders while my balls slap against that fat ass booty,” he grunted, squeezing his erect dick.

My mouth dropped open. For the first time in a long time, I was rendered speechless. Just that quick, he threatened the only man I ever loved in this life, read me down beforehand…then had the nerve to leave me horny. I was confused to say the least.

“You damn right, I need to feel something…” He licked his thick lips then tugged at his beard.

“It’s a voice in my head that says that shit at least a hundred times a day… so thank you, Amaris. You made me feel some shit. I guess it was a good dosage cause a nigga feel light on his feet tonight.” He winked then turned and walked away.

I watched his broad back and gaped at his slightly bowlegged walk.

Damn… he made me feel a lot of things.

CHAPTER 4

Royal

10.03.26- UNEXPECTED VISITOR

“You the type of nigga that need to feel something.”

Amaris soft sexy voice haunted me all last night until this morning. Multiple punch lines of hers circulated in my mind, fully throwing me off balance. I woke up already thinking about her ass and that irritated me. It took close to a month to dead my feelings for Serenity. A month of me holding everything in with no one to really express myself to in the intimate way that I did with Serenity.

I acted off emotions and killed Deontray instead of touching basis with Luca to see if he paid off his debt. Luca was pissed about me killing the man because that same day of me killing him at Serenity’s house, he paid off his debt with interest that morning. Although Luca got over my fuck up, I still beat myself up about it.

“Listen to me, Royal,” Dontrell said, looking dead through me instead of at me. “One day, you gon’ be Capo. Maybe sooner than you think… and when that day come, everybody gon’ look at the suit, the money, the respect, and the sexy women that come with that mixed with the fear people show when they know they done fucked up, and think it’s power…” Dontell shook his head, leaned forward before continuing.

“But what it really is… is sacrifice,” he grated.

I remember swallowing hard because, even at sixteen, I knew this was a lesson that he expected for me to follow closely.
