Slowly, her gaze lifted. I exhaled through my nose, then decided to keep things as brief as possible with her.
“Do you truly think you can get Luca back?”
Her lips parted as shock showed up a second too late.
“I—”
“No,” I cut her off quickly, snapping my fingers to really get her attention.
“Don’t give me the answer you think sounds good.” I leaned forward, resting my elbows on my knees.
“I’m asking if you honestly believe that man is coming back to you?”
Sanarah swallowed and looked away from me for a couple of seconds.
“I think he still loves me.”
And there it was. I almost felt bad for her because women still in love with an ex had a habit of confusing history with fake possibilities. Just because something existed once, didn’t mean it could exist again.
I tilted my head and smiled at her.
“You think?” My words dripped with skepticism.
Her shoulders tensed as she nodded her head, believing her own delusion.
“He loved me.”
“Loved,” I emphasized the word.
I watched her expression falter once the distinction of past tense verbiage hit her.
“You clinging to memories because reality hurts too much,” I reasoned.
Her eyes narrowed.
“You don’t know everything, I really didn’t have a choice when it came to Kentrell.”
“You did, girl… but I’m not here to reason with you over your fuck-ups because, at the end of the day, it was simply my come up.” I smirked smugly.
“Now the hardest thing a woman can do is accept that the person she’s waiting for isn’t coming,” I spat coldly.
“You think I can' force a man like Luca to love and want me?” I cocked my head to the side.
Her eyes quickly glossed over; she looked shattered but that’s how it was when the truth was presented right in front of your face.
“Don’t continue to lose yourself waiting for a man who already let you go. Focus on learning how to love yourself so you can love your kids properly.” I uncrossed my legs and stood.
“What makes you think you deserve him?” She shook with anger.
“Deserve?” A humorless laugh escaped me.
“Him and I met through wreckage… We earned each other.”
I crossed over to the side she was sitting on and squatted right in front of her.
“You took one look at me and thought… Damn, this bitch ugly. Scars and all you can’t fuck with me, Sanarah. Not even if Luca was in or out of the picture. I don’t owe you no explanations to why it’s me and not you. The quicker you accept the fact that there is nothing left to rekindle between you and Luca, the better it’ll be for you. I’m telling you up close and personal, if you ever disrespect me by trying some shit you know better of… I’m rearranging your face. You try some shit like trying to use your kids as a bargaining tool to hurt my man, I’m ending your fucking life. Get with the program before I decide to do both.”
