Haven freezes as her eyes roam over my face.
“You actually mean that, don’t you?”
Leaning in close, I kiss away a drop of come at the corner of her mouth.
“Yes, I do,” I whisper as the car comes to a stop at the front doors.
The air is heavy and thick with emotion that can’t be put into words, and then the driver opens the door. Our bubble from the last few days is officially popped.
“Come on, let’s get this over.”
I climb out and offer Haven my hand. She emerges from the car as elegantly as a butterfly from a cocoon. I don’t know how she does it, but I cling to her for support as we walk up to the front doors.
“I’m surprised no one is here to harass us.”
“Don’t worry, Cyrus. I’m sure your adoring groupies will be waiting for us when we leave.”
My lip twitches. “Is that a hint of jealousy I detect in your tone?”
Haven flicks her hair over her shoulder, showing off the purple hickey on her neck. She holds her head high, totally unashamed to be by my side.
“No, but I will tear their hair and eyes out if they touch you again.”
My hand tightens on hers, a love that is so dangerously close to a deadly obsession flows through me.
“I can go for another round of jail sex,” I say as Haven rolls her eyes.
We march through the hospital, and heads turn. Whispers and finger pointing follow the entire time, and I secretly hope that one of them tries to touch me. Haven jealous…well, that’s fucking catnip to an asshole like me.

“I’ve bled in silence so long, I forgot what it feels like to be heard.” – Cyrus
CYRUS
Two hours later, I’m pacing the penthouse suite waiting for Doctor Stevens to call with the results. I’m scared to hope for answers.
Hope is a deadly mistress that can crush as easily as it can raise you up.
Not that I want a terrible autoimmune disease, but answers…God, to finally know the truth…there is a peace in that. I want to know and deal with the real issue instead of just throwing meds at symptoms. I may still fear my body, but I’ll know what to expect and how to handle it—that’s a fucking dream come true.
Haven looks adorable curled up on the couch. Her green eyes follow me like I’m a tennis ball. I don’t know how or why she is giving me a chance after everything, but I believe Patrick has something to do with it somehow. Why? I don’t know, it’s just a feeling.
“Sit and try to relax,” Haven says.
“I know what will help me relax and kill time. A two-for-one.”
“Cy, you can’t solve everything with sex.”
“I can try.”
She rolls her eyes, and I’m just about to make my move when the door suddenly opens.
“Hey fuckers,” Vex calls out.
“Did you invite them?”
