“You’re still an asshole,” she mumbles against my lips.

I don’t bother denying it. I am, especially when it comes to Haven.

“I need time to think, Cy. I can’t. Not yet.”

Releasing her neck, the darkest parts of me come alive.

Oh, Haven, when will you learn?

“You live under my skin like an addiction I never want to break.” – Cyrus

HAVEN

I swallow hard as a dark look passes in his eyes.

Cy stands and heads to the door. I sit up a little straighter.

“What are you doing?”

He doesn’t respond.

“Officer Grimes,” he yells, and smacks his hand on the bars.

The officer practically jogs in like he’s Cy’s personal assistant. I slowly get up while Cy whispers to the man, and a bad feeling creeps down my back. Keys jingle, and I suck in a deep breath as the cell door slides open.

This is not good.

It’s like watching a lion be let out of its cage, but you have nowhere to hide. The officer relocks the cell and instead of taking him away…Cy looks at me.

Shit.

“What are you doing?” My favorite question when it comes to Cy.

I look around as if an escape route will magically appear.

The clanking of the keys in the door raises the hair on the back of my neck, and everything in me goes still.

Cy doesn’t rush it. He doesn’t lunge or say a damn word. He steps into my cell as if this is where he is meant to be—with me.

The officer shuts the door behind him with a heavy clang, and the sound echoes down the corridor. A warning bell that is far too late.

“Hello. You can’t leave him in here,” I call out for all the good it does me.

The officer smirks and walks away.

What the fuck?

My eyes dart back to Cy. My stomach flips, and my heart stutters erratically.

“Cy…” I start, but it comes out wrong and a whole lot less certain.

He takes a step closer, watching me while I slowly push myself along the wall to put distance between us.

“You better not be thinking what I think you’re thinking. We’re in a jail cell, and there are cameras,” I say, pointing at the corner.
