“But...but…that’s not fair,” she complained and tied her coat in place around her naked body.

“We’ve been together five months now, Brit. You’re more than capable of finding a new Dom now, or you can go and do what you agreed to when we first got together. That is the choice you made, so it is fair.”

The look of bewilderment on her face told me all I needed to know, so I continued. “I’m not a boy toy or your boyfriend. We had an arrangement that you seemed to think was more than that. This little lesson is to remind you that we don’t. I’m your Dom, and I’ve been loyal to my end of the bargain, but this is also my place of work. I’ve told you twice not to come here because I keep my professional life separate from my lifestyle. Yet, here you are.”

“I thought you were joking. I thought you really liked it when I showed up.”

My brow furrowed as I pictured our last conversation. How the hell had she managed to go from “Don’t come to my place of work” to “It was only a joke?” Had I fucking laughed? She licked her lips, her eyes darting away from mine.

“I’m not doing it,” she said, crossing her arms.

My hands itched to teach her a lesson, but I knew this would be more punishment than doing anything else.

“Then you know where the door is, use it and don’t come back or call me again. We are done. Consider our agreement to be canceled.”

Brit’s hands gripped my shirt, her eyes filling with tears. “No, please, I’m begging you. I only want you.”

“Did I say you could touch me?”

She shook her head no as her hands uncurled from the tight hold she had on my shirt.

“Then you know what you need to do, or there’s the door. This is your choice.”

I glanced at Wheels, who stood quietly with his arms crossed over his chest, and a curl on his lips. The guy was used to this kind of display. I wouldn’t call myself a brat tamer, that term was used for someone with a lot more patience than me, but I did seem to have a type. He’d been part of more than one of these situations and took them all in stride. I had to admit that I’d never met a woman who was so uninterested in Wheels. The guy was hot as fuck, even by guy standards.

“But I love you,” she blurted out and then covered her mouth.

I shook my head slowly. “Then it is definitely time for us to part ways. I told you not to fall in love with me and that this was a mutual arrangement. You said and agreed to the terms, and you were supposed to leave if you thought you might be developing feelings, and you obviously didn’t. So, it’s time for you to go. Please be safe in your journey to finding your next partner.”

Stepping inside my office I closed the door and locked it.

“You’re an asshole,” she yelled and pounded her fist on the door. “I hate you! I’m going to tell the world what and ass you are.”

As I continued to ignore her, and with encouragement from Wheels, Brit stormed away. I felt a little bad that she’d fallen in love with me, but I wasn’t the falling-in-love type. It didn’t seem to matter how many times I made that clear. There were always a few who didn’t listen or follow the rules. They ended up angry and feeling betrayed. Brit had never even been to my home, met my step-mother, or known my birthday. Did that sound like someone interested in a committed relationship? No. But here we were.

Flicking open the laptop, the screen flashed and then settled on the picture that I’d been staring at before I was interrupted. Maybe one day I’d settle down with one partner, but I hadn’t met that person yet, and I wasn’t rushing out to find her.

I was content with the way my life was.

“Are you kidding me?” Beck paced across the living room and then back again. Her face was starting to turn tomato red, which was worrying me. I wasn’t sure if she was planning on passing out or was going to reach full meltdown mode.

“One night. I go out one stinking night, and not only do you almost get yourself killed, which we will be talking about further, but you didn’t get the freaking hot firefighter’s first name? I mean, that’s like rule number one, Vi.” She slapped her hands together, making Heathrow in my lap jump as much as I did. “Are you listening to me,” she growled like a parent, scolding me.

“Yes, I think the entire neighborhood is listening to you,” I said.

I stroked Heathrow’s soft fur as he settled back down into my lap. I think he was the only one enjoying the show from his front-row seat.

“Don’t you sass me, Missy.” Beck flopped in the large recliner, the thing squeaking in protest as it rocked back. “Do you even know how long it’s been since you got laid? I do. Two years, three months, and four days.”

My hand stilled. “Okay, that’s seriously creepy, Beck. I didn’t even know that. I don’t think I even cared enough to know that.”

“That’s because you’ve forgotten what it’s like to get laid by anyone. You need to find this guy. It is like a total must.”

“I’m not searching for him. He was a complete jerk. He called me crazy and gave me a look.”

Beck leaned forward, her elbows going to her knees as she gave me her death stare. “A look?”
