“Me, crazy? That’s funny.” Once more, he slammed on the brakes and yanked the car to the right-hand side of the road, sending gravel flying. “Get out,” he snarled again like he was more animal than human.

“Here? Just take me back to the dorm, and you never have to see me again.”

“I said get out! Now!” His body was shaking.

Deciding it was better to be left at the side of the road in the middle of nowhere rather than in the car with him, I opened the door to hop out. Before I could move, a harsh fist gripped my hair, and I was yanked away from the door. He practically dragged me into his lap with force as I screamed at the top of my lungs.

“Peter, let go. You’re hurting me.” I clawed at whatever bare skin I could get my hands on as he roughly stuck his hand down my shirt. “Peter, stop,” I cried out as he palmed my boob like he was trying to twist the thing off my body.

I suddenly wished I had more than the meager twelve weeks of combat training. Stupidly, this was not a situation I ever thought I’d be in, and the urge to freak out grew as adrenaline pumped through my body. It was a big thing to learn how to control your nerves at Quantico, but I can honestly say that for all my bravado, it was a fuck load harder than I thought it would be.

I punched up at Peter’s face and tried to drive my elbow down into his leg or anywhere soft as I struggled against his much larger size. My nails dug into his chest and twisted hard, making him yell out.

“Stupid fucking slut, you’re a sick bitch. My mother was right about you.” He lifted my head hard and slammed it into the steering wheel. “No one humiliates me. No one humiliates my family,” Peter snarled like a rabid animal as he brought my head down into his lap and once more pushed my face into the bottom part of the leather wheel.

I struck out again, and he smacked my hands away as he ripped open my blouse. The buttons tinged against the dash as they flew off the shirt in all directions. I managed to get my hand on the horn, the sound blaring loud, but even I knew there wasn’t anyone around for miles to hear. I screamed again as his hand tightened in my hair and pulled my head further into his lap, forcing me to stare up at his face. At the odd angle, the console and the gear shift were pressing painfully into my back.

“I’m going to make you choke on my cock.”

“Spare me. You’re a fucking useless prick that couldn’t fuck for shit,” I spat up at him and lunged for his stomach with my teeth, narrowly missing my target.

“Fucking whore, I’m going to….”

“To what? Hurt me? Rape me? Make me pay,” I raged. “You’re not man enough to do any of those things.”

I could feel the anger coming off him as his body shook with the crazed rage coursing through him. I wanted him to be so angry that he would make mistake after mistake. One thing Peter wasn’t very good at was being smart when he was emotional. I planned on using that deficit to my advantage.

Peter grabbed the front of my bra and pulled it up until my breasts popped out the bottom. As I thrashed harder, my foot slammed into the expensive upholstery of the dash and ceiling of the car. I was purposely trying to puncture holes and leave scraps.

“Stop kicking my car!”

“Then let go of me, you idiot! When my mother finds out what you’ve done, she’s going to hate you,” I yelled, and he paused in his movement.

It was just a moment, but it was enough for me to catch him off guard and punch up as hard as I could. I caught him in the bottom of his jaw, and his mouth slammed shut with an audible snap.

I had no idea what Peter would’ve done next because bright lights pulled up behind the vehicle, the headlights illuminating the inside of the car like the sun suddenly rose. Peter released me like a hot potato, and not caring if my shirt was in place, I leaped for the open door and pulled my coat tightly around me.

“Is everything alright here,” asked a male voice, but I couldn’t see who it was. The voice was familiar, though.

The glare of the headlights on the large truck blinded my eyes, but I heard the engine still rumbling. Peter, the chicken shit, stomped on the gas. The car’s wheels squealed as he pulled away from the edge of the road. The door slammed into place, but something flew out the window as he took off as fast as my heart was hammering. The shock of what almost happened was just settling in as my shaking hand covered my mouth.

“Are you alright, Miss…” The voice that sounded was the same rich, gravelly tone that washed through me at the coffee shop.

He took a step forward, and as he did, he stepped into the light’s beam. I sucked in a sharp breath as soon as I saw who it was. My eyes glanced at the simple white tow truck and then back to the man.

“You,” I managed to spit out. “I know you.” He cocked his head and stared at me, his eyes calm. “From the coffee shop, I spilled coffee on myself.”

His eyes lit up. “I didn’t recognize you out here. You’re having a string of bad luck lately.”

“You could say that.” I shook my head. “Thanks for coming along when you did.”

He looked around the pitch-black road. For the first time since my mad escape from Peter’s car, I realized that we really were out in the middle of nowhere, and it was very cold outside. I shivered and put my hand in my pocket to pull out my phone. There was no signal.

Great.

“There’s no service out here. This entire area never gets service. It’s partly the reason I like to work this road. I don’t want someone to get stuck out here. No one would be able to find them.”

“That’s really nice of you. I hate to ask this, but would you be able to drive me to Quantico?”
