“You’re right, because I won’t give us a label either. But I’m simply stating that you won’t be able to turn me away from my job. I won’t ask you to give up yours.”
“That’s not even the same. I don’t go out with other ladies.”
“It doesn’t matter. If you can’t see this as a job, then you’re stupider than I thought.”
She grabbed the blanket and wrapped it around herself.
“And what’s worse, AJ, is that I didn’t think you were. But this, right here, is proving how dumb you are. Especially after I told you what happened with my ex.
“I think we need to take a break,” she said, and my eyes opened wide. That was the last thing I expected.
But when I took a step to her, trying to stop her, she took one back, her hand held up.
“No, I know we need to, actually. And when you decide to pull your head out of your ass, you can contact me.”
Chapter 9
Spyridoula
Ifolded my hands underneath my head as I stared up at the sky, my thoughts in a turmoil.
It had been three days since I talked to Ajax and there hadn’t been a peep from him, which only told me that he hadn’t pulled his head out of his ass enough to make this right.
And I didn’t know how I felt about that, honestly.
I was hurt, pissed, upset, and sad.
All were valid, and I knew this. Friends told me the same thing too.
Mind you, friends were some of the other ladies in The Network, and while they might not mind if I left, they wouldn’t wish me ill will. And a few ladies had their own issues with their men.
I sighed and sat up, a little upset that my beautiful sky wasn’t even calming down enough to get over this.
He had been plaguing my mind and I hated it.
I grabbed my phone and my pillow, wanting to go out inside, since none of this was making me feel better.
“Stupid men, why do they have to be like that? They could do whatever they wanted, but it was bad if the female wanted to keep doing what she loved. I enjoyed meeting new people, seeing different aspects of life, but that wasn’t taken into consideration, was it? Nope. Just assumed I might cheat.”
I kept grumbling even as I slipped my pj’s on, my anger starting all over again.
With a grunt, I climbed into bed, feeling my phone buzz and I grabbed it, making a face.
I groaned as I saw that it was the app; a request. I didn’t want to be disappointed, but I was really hoping I would hear from Ajax soon. And the longer it took, the more worried I became because it could destroy our friendship and that’s the one thing I didn’t want to do.
Not now.
Not when we were finding our way again.
That wasn’t something I was willing to lose.
I clicked on the app, read the request, then slowly smiled.
My finger hovered over the accept button for a moment, seeing this as his apology, but knowing I was still getting a formal one later.
Three hours later, I stepped out on the curb in a pair of jeans, boots, and a flannel shirt, making him smile.
“Well, I guess that works.”
