“Maybe.”

“Fuck, Jade.” I stroke a finger through her valley, relishing her wet heat. She moans, rocking her hips gently to my exploration. I take my time memorizing her pussy with one finger, then two. When the third joins the party, I dip my middle finger into her channel.

She gasps, lifting her hips to me.

“Fuck, you’re tight.”

“It’s…been a while.”

“Then I’m gonna make sure you come extra hard.”

I return my mouth to hers as I grind my palm against her clit. I can feel her walls clenching around my finger and slide a second one in to join. She moans louder, and I increase the pace. Her nails dig into my shoulders as she cries out.

“River!”

I groan as my own release happens inside my boxers. But I don’t dare stop what I’m doing. I grind my hand against her harder and faster, showing her no mercy as she comes apart. She kisses me so hard I swear my lips bruise.

When her body finally stills, I pull my hand free from her wet heat.

“Fuck, that was the sexiest thing I’ve ever witnessed,” I say, kissing her forehead.

“What about you?”

“Oh, don’t you worry about me.” I can’t help the grin that spreads across my lips. I may not have come inside her—this time. But I’m more than fucking satisfied right now. “How do you feel about pancakes?”

“What are pancakes?” she asks, and we both laugh.

JADE

“You’re a damn good cook,” Natasha announces, sliding back her chair at River’s kitchen table and standing. “Are you sure we can’t talk you into coming back to Indiana with us? The pay would be shit, and the town…even shittier.”

“We could just move to Wildwood,” Josh says to his wife.

I watch the playful, loving exchange with admiration and a healthy dose of jealousy.

“You would move here?” Natasha asks him as he collects the empty plates. River grilled steaks for everyone tonight, and to my surprise, my bestie came out of the sex cabin long enough to join us for dinner.

I was both excited and disappointed.

River and I worked tirelessly all morning sorting through the remainder of the items in the upstairs bedroom. We spent the afternoon in town dropping off another thrift store haul, picking up more cupcakes, and walking the streets of Wildwood since I’d yet to get a good look at the place.

But I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t selfishly hoping to get this man all to myself now that we were home.

Home.

The word bounces around in my head and fills my chest with an emotion I can’t quite identify. I don’t try too hard, but I do allow the fantasy of home to play out a little further. Maybe I could move to Wildwood. Maybe we all could.

I have no clue what I’d do for work, but it’s not as though I have a job right now anyway.

Not once the appraiser position is over.

A pang of guilt hits me square in the chest as Natasha and Josh excuse themselves. I should tell River the truth. I’d insist he keep his money, and promise to pay him back for the plane tickets once I find employment again.

Now that I’m developing feelings for the man, this secret feels…icky.

Shit.
