“Hush.”

“But—”

“We’re supposed to be quiet on set,” he hissed.

“But—”

He glared.

I pointed at the wall. The blank wall.

“Crap.” He barged onto the set. “Sorry, guys.” He snagged the painting Coco had been cleaning. “Let me just hang this…” He did, then scurried back to me.

Coco waved her thanks to him.

He pointed to me.

I blushed.

Three hours later, as I sat in traffic out of the city, a pang hit me that I wouldn’t see everyone for two entire days. Funny how close I’d grown to that group in such a short time.

Chapter Eight

Myles

“Where is everyone this morning?”

I eyed Hallsy in his funereal uniform. “They’re shooting a scene down by the waterfront. We don’t start until after lunch. Did they not tell you?”

He placed the box on the table, yanked his phone from his back pocket, and checked the screen. He shook his head. “I was told to be here for nine.”

“That sucks. Well…” I rose and sashayed my way over to him. “What are we going to do with ourselves?”

“We?” He frowned. “You have work to do. I will sit and watch the box.”

Slowly, I grasped the box.

He let it go.

I placed it on the table.

He cleared his throat. “Should you not be at the, uh, shooting?”

“Sally’s there. The only prop is Montgomery’s briefcase. If anything else comes up, she’s qualified to handle it. She needs more solo time to gain confidence.”

“She…appears quite confident.” He continued to hold my gaze, tilting his head downward.

“Sure…but a little extra boost is always good.”

“And you’re here alone.”

“Yeah. I mean there are people in the offices, but the floor’s empty.”

“Ah.” Then, “We should—”

I snagged his hand. “I want to show you something.”

“I’m not certain—”
