Then he growls.
My eyes roll back. And my head tips to the side, exposing my neck to him.
The hand on my belly flexes, the energy that feels like it’s wrapped around us intensifies, and hot breath exhales against my throat.
I can’t stop the whimper that crawls out of my chest.
“I…” I fight to swallow. “I need…”
“I know what you need, Little Human.”
Little Human?
His words, his tone, it’s all intoxicating.
Stars dot my vision, and my bones feel like they’re melting.
Clinging to his hands, I try to find the strength to turn.
I need to see him.
All of him.
But then voices bounce off the buildings around us. And I remember what he did just moments ago. How he pushed those men away… with the flick of his wrist.
The voices get louder, and I think they’re about to round the end of the block.
I only made it a few yards from my door, but it’s still too far to—
The air is yanked from my lungs as we fly backward.
I tighten my hold on Vameer’s hands, but I don’t slip so much as an inch away from him.
Then we’re turning. And something that feels like magic pulses around us, and my front door opens on its own.
The big male body curls over me, and with my feet still not touching the ground, we move through the doorway into the small entrance of my house.
I hear the door slam shut behind us, followed by the thud of the lock, but the hands against me never drop.
The enclosed space feels like it’s flooded with electricity.
I don’t know if any of this is real or if this is all in my head.
But whatever it is, I’ve never felt more at home; I’ve never felt more like I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be.
Chapter 39
Vameer
My vision swims.
Shut inside Rune’s home… the scent of her is overwhelming.
Intoxicating.
The entryway is too low. I have to stay hunched over to keep my head, and horns, away from the ceiling. But I don’t release her. I shift until I’m hugging her from behind, my arms wrapped all the way around her.
Then I lift my mate higher. Until my face is pressed into her neck.
