My lungs fill with lightning as I jolt up in bed.

The apartment is dark. The curtains are closed. There’s no one here.

Except…

I have to find him.

Right now.

I need to go outside and find him.

I scramble off the bed.

The weight in my chest is swirling. It feels heavier and more… electrified than before.

He’s outside.

Excitement and nerves skitter over my exposed skin as I run down the stairs.

I have to hurry.

I fling the door open and rush out onto the sidewalk.

My keys are still upstairs. But I can’t go back for them. And my shoes are still inside.

There’s no time.

The cold concrete feels nice against my bare feet, and the night air feels good against my heated skin.

I take a step as I glance down.

I’m in cream-colored sleep shorts and a matching short-sleeved shirt. The neckline is loose and hangs down, exposing one shoulder. And…

I look like I’m steaming.

The front door slams closed, snapping me out of my stunned stillness.
