I look to the druid. “That still work to kill him? Even though it’s not a dagger.”

Gold flashes above us.

We look up.

Outlined against the moonlit sky is a massive portal.

What looks to be thirty or more vampires drop through.

The portal disappears as Dread lifts his hand.

His jaw flexes, anger clear in his expression. But he doesn’t lower his hand. He twists it.

A new portal swallows five of the guards before they can all disperse.

At the same time, another portal opens, dropping another dozen guards.

These new ones are smart.

They jump. Straight for us.

Something else whistles through the air, exploding against a tree to the east. A crack warns of the tree falling.

Another whistle and explosion on our other side. And that shitty cabin catches fire.

I pull two daggers as approximately fifty vampires slam to the ground around us.

Rune

“Down!”

I drop at Nix’s shout.

Her hands go up as she steps over me. And a vampire slams against nothing a foot in front of her.

Nix is holding off one of King Tosa’s guards.

“Fuck yes!” My shout cracks with emotion.

Scrambling to my feet, I hold my hands up. And I focus.

I couldn’t do this on my own yet. But I can help.

The guard bares his fangs at us.

But as he pushes against Nix’s barrier.

Mine flares to life.

My power layers behind hers. And we shove.

He staggers back. And Bridget jumps out of nowhere. Hissing as she sweeps him off his feet.

Nix and I turn to the door.
