“Dinner tomorrow night?”

Shaking her head, she groaned. “I don’t think …”

Leaning forward, he kissed her. “Please?”

“Okay, two conditions.”

“Okay, what?”

“First, you put everything that’s cluttering your kitchen away. Whatever doesn’t give you joy or that you don’t use or don’t want anymore, put it in bags. One to give away and one to throw out if it won’t be of use to anyone. Keep only the things that give you joy. Just the kitchen for now. And I want to see a photo afterward.”

“Seriously?”

She nodded. “Seriously.”

He couldn’t help it, he burst out laughing.

“Okay and the other one?” he asked when he could talk again.

“We can’t do this …” she motioned between them.

“What do you mean?”

“You know what I mean. The touching, the kissing … we’ve made lo—We’ve had sex, but I don’t know anything about you. Let’s get to know one another before we jump into bed again. You may not even like me when you get to know me.”

Leaning forward, he tried to kiss her, but she pulled away. “I’ve just said …”

Pulling her closer, he kissed one side of her mouth. “You’ve just dropped this bomb,” he whispered as his mouth slid to the other side, “I have to kiss you again …”

Giving her ample time to pull away should she want to, he pressed his mouth gently against hers.

“You drive me insane,” she murmured as she grabbed his head between her hands and kissed him. Just for a moment, then she was opening the door.

He opened his door. “Wait, I’ll help you out.”

“Oh, now you can move?”

“There’s no one else to see me but you, and you already know what you do to me.” Quickly, he got out, inhaling the cool, fresh fall air.

As he helped Abby down, he hugged her close. “You feel how much I want you?” he whispered in her ear.

Her breath hitched. “Carson …”

“And we didn’t just have sex, Abby we made love, exactly as you were going to say.”

Inhaling shakily, she stepped away.

Out of breath, he had to put a hand out to steady himself against his truck. “Go, before I drag you back into my truck and have my way with you.”

With a soft giggle he felt right down to the soles of his feet, she ran toward the front door.

The woman was killing him and she was giggling.

Chapter Eight

On Monday morning, Abby pressed her hand to her tummy where everything was trembling as they approached the gate to The Weston Ranch. Arlene had picked her up at Annie’s a while ago and had fortunately been talking nonstop since they’d left Marietta.

“I hope you’re hungry.” Arlene smiled as she drove through the impressive gates. “Isabella is such a wonderful cook.”
