“I just—had a feeling you’d hide behind the fabric. I don’t know why. A hunch?” I pause. “Where were you?”

“I was hiding, duh,” she says. “But then Hannah grabbed me, and she was hysterical. Guess what?” She lifts her mask up and flashes her phone screen at me.

I lift my own mask and read the text presented to me on the small screen.

It’s about Lucien’s case, now involving Joseph, too. To sum it up, Joseph’s body was found. Or part of him was. It seems like both were caught up in risky business and messed up with the wrong guys. They’re closing the case.

And that’s all that’s being revealed to the public. They bought it. Our plan worked.

“Is this over?” I sigh, relief rolling down my belly. That was fast. “Fuck. Really?”

“Yep.” She leans forward, tiptoeing and wrapping her arms around my neck. “We’re free, Kayden. We’ll be okay.”

“Great news.”

“Wonderful.” She smiles. “And actually…You weren’t so wrong about what you said.”

“About what?”

“About me hiding behind fabrics.”

My lips part, shaping into an O. “Did you—did you hide behind some fabric last night?”

“Yeah.”

“And what happened?”

“You found me.”

“And what did I do?

“Umm…you know.” She pauses. “Stuff.”

“What stuff?”

She presses a finger against my lips.

“You’re seriously not going to tell me?”

“It’s between Devon and me.”

I scoff. “Are you fucking kidding me?”

“It was nothing.”

A voice inside my head groans. My chest stings, a pain erupting through it.

“Nothing?” I don’t recognize my voice. My words are angry, stronger than I meant them to be.

“I mean…” She corners me into the wall, where I almost got scared to death by a student. “It wasn’t nothing-nothing. It made me…” She grabs my hand and slips it under her dress, covering both of us with her body. “Like this.”

Her panties are soaked. I smirk sheepishly.

The tightening in my chest loosens, and the voice shuts down.

I move her panties to the side and test her folds with one of my fingers, sliding it back and forth through her slit.

She purrs.
