I claw at the covers, trying to reach some part of him so I can hang on as I whimper out my pleasure.

“I love the sounds you make,” he rumbles, pumping into me again. “Tell me what you want, sweet Candy.”

“Faster,” I gasp, gripping the blankets in tight fists. “Harder.”

He ratchets up the pace, pumping into me with a force that has everything on me jiggling. But I can’t even care how I look, the pleasure that’s hitting me in waves getting more intense with every thrust.

I’m making these high-pitched whimpers as he angles his body closer to mine, his chest hovering just above me.

I let go of the covers to throw my arms around his neck. The extra contact of our bodies is what finally tips me over the edge, and I scream out, another orgasm crashing through me.

Wave after wave of pleasure moves through me as his movements lose all art. And then a moan rips from his throat as he jerks inside of me, the intensity of his orgasm making me hold my breath. I finally let it out when he collapses on top of me.

I melt back into the covers, my arms still around him, but my muscles have turned to jelly. “Holy shit.”

His temple is pressed to my ear before he turns his face to press a light kiss to the same spot. “That sums it up.”

“I had no idea sex could be like that,” I mutter as my eyes slide closed, my hand skimming down his back. It’s the truth. I’ve never, and I mean never, experienced anything even close to what just happened between us.

“Hmmm,” he says, like he might say more, but I slip into sleep, whatever else he murmurs is just a faraway hum.

It isn’t until he moves off me that I jerk awake.

He looks down at me, a small, sexy grin playing at his gorgeous mouth. “I’m putting you under the covers, sweet treat.”

“Oh,” I sigh. “How long have I been asleep?”

“A few minutes,” he answers, kissing me before he lifts me up and pulls back the covers, laying me down again. Then he tucks the covers up around my body before he straightens away.

“You’re not sleeping with me?” I ask, knowing it’s a mistake. This is a no-strings, no-promises arrangement. I don’t have a right to want more.

“Not this time.” And then he leans down and kisses my lips. “Get some sleep.” His hand slides into the hair at my nape, his thumb sweeping over my cheek, before he pulls away, turns, and picks up his jeans, tugging them on in moves that are sexy as hell.

I should be exhausted. I should probably be ashamed.

But somehow, I’m turned on all over again as I watch him dress. It’s on the tip of my tongue to invite him into the bed for something other than sleeping. But there is something in the way his back is turned that I just know he won’t accept.

I sigh, despite myself.

“What’s wrong?”

There is no point in lying. “You look as good putting your clothes on as you did taking them off.”

He turns to me then, his T-shirt and jeans firmly on, and leans down to kiss me again. “You are something, you know that?”

“I am something,” I answer with a shrug. “Thanks for listening tonight. I…” I want to say something like I’ll never forget you, but it sounds stupid. Instead, I draw in a deep breath, going for something a little less…revealing. “I will never forget tonight.”

He looks down at me, searching my face. “Neither will I.” And then he grabs the rest of his clothes, shoving his shoes on.

He’s out the door without another word. I lie back, a little hollow now that he’s gone.

Silver lining, I don’t think I care about Vinnie Morelli at all.

But I might now be nursing a brand-new broken heart.
