His location had not been connected to Astor Street, but Gianni was not stupid enough to search one target at a time. If he could find us here, he could find Kiryl, too.

“Move him before dawn,” I told Pietro.

“I’ll arrange it.”

Yelena stood across the table, arms folded tight.

“Where?”

“You don’t need the location.”

Her expression hardened.

“For security,” I added. “Not because I don’t trust you. I don’t want it shared, I don’t want it spoken, I don’t want anyone to know.”

“I know his habits.”

“Yes.”

“He’ll panic if strangers wake him.”

“Then record a message. You coddle him too much, he’s not a baby.”

“He is a baby. My baby brother.”

“You’re almost the same age.”

“It doesn’t matter. Ugh, you don’t get it, do you? I’ll help plan the route.”

“No.”

The room tightened.

Then I changed my answer.

“You may help until eleven-thirty.”

She blinked. “Excuse me?”

“The rule you negotiated. Bedtime.”

“This is an emergency.”

“And I’ve extended your involvement to the deadline you chose. After that, Pietro and I handle it.”

“I know Gianni.”

“You’ll still know him tomorrow.”

She stared at me. I held the line.

“Fine,” she said.
