But after that, only one image stood out.
“I remember standing in the middle of the living room. You were over by the window. You’d just killed the last asshole.” She’d been so sexy. Panting, fangs glistening between parted lips and clutching a dagger like a zombie-hunting badass.
The poison from the serpent had been running hot in his veins. So hot that it’d blocked the pain from all the damage he’d taken. He’d looked down at himself and registered mild shock at the gashes and contusions, the jagged end of his femur bone sticking through shredded muscle.
He hadn’t cared.
Battle lust was raging. But as his gaze raked the female in front of him, another kind of lust roared to life. He’d wanted that warrior female in front of him. He’d wanted to throw her to the floor and take her right there on the battlefield.
He’d called to her…Deja…no, Gristlen. The next thing he knew, he was crumpling to the floor. And then there was nothing.
He shook the water out of his eyes. Why had he seen Gristlen in Deja? He must have been delirious. “Did I pass out?”
“Well…”
Not a promising response. “C’mon, Deja. Spill.”
“You had a little help,” she hedged.
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
“Sin got here right after we killed the last asshole.” Through the shower curtain, he saw her going through his medicine cabinet. If she was looking for anything interesting, she’d be sorely disappointed. The only things in there were his toothbrush and toothpaste. “You were still kindaraged-out, so she dropped you with some kind of dart. Eidolon and a cleanup crew got here shortly afterward.”
Sin had always been fond of her sleep darts. Didn’t surprise him that she’d carry one tucked away with her knives and throwing stars.
Tavin stepped fully into the spray, letting the water cascade over his head and face. He wasn’t sure he’d ever get clean enough. “So, if Eidolon was here, why do I still feel like I spent a few hours tumbling inside an industrial clothes dryer?”
There was a brief moment of silence that made his heart pound.
Then, “He could only heal the fresh damage, the injuries you sustained in the fight after the fallen angel healed you the last time. He said Anius did a shitty job, and a lot of your bones and organs weren’t healed right.”
Tavin closed his eyes and shampooed his hair. “Shit.”
Once again, he knew how Arik felt. Back when Tavin had healed him following rounds of torture, Tavin hadn’t been skilled at healing. His gift had always been more about killing. It wasn’t until he got proper training at Underworld General that he’d become truly proficient at mending broken bones and regenerating damaged flesh.
“Eidolon said you need more than he’s capable of doing, so…”
He froze with his fingers buried in suds on his scalp. “So, what?”
“He’s sending a specialist who can help. A doctor from UG’s clinic.”
“What kind of specialist?”
There was a slight pause. “She heals with sex.”
He blinked and paid for it with suds in his eyes. “Are you serious?”
“Her name is Dr. Sleeva.”
Sleeva…he vaguely remembered Grim talking about meeting a hot doc who treated some of her patients to the best medicine ever.
He said she was kind of an X-rated superhero. She healed people with orgasms by day and went vigilante with her vagina at night, literally fucking bad guys to death. He’d claimed she even had a superhero name.
Tavin had thought Grim was full of shit and had been reading too many comic books. But whaddya know?
The Vagilantewas real.
He’d love to see that costume.
