Vampires were part of nature. This was all how the food chain worked. Bentley had said so.

Davis had cost me two years of my life and much of my future. He’d used me, manipulated me. People had gotten hurt. So who’s fault was it that this guy had crossed paths with a real vampire?

There he is. Mr. Ruthless. I’ve missed you, man.

Shut up, voice.

We’re back, baby.

Either I was losing my mind or there really was another separate personality in my head. Neither option was ideal, and also not my most immediate problem.

Theo gasped free of the guy’s neck and crouched back. He licked his lips and sighed. “Fuck . . . I really needed that.”

Sweet didn’t move. His eyes were open, mouth too. I didn’t think he was going to be bullying me into going back to Davis anytime soon, or bullying anyone ever again.

“You killed him.” I’m not sure why I had to say it aloud. Maybe so I heard the words, made them real. But if I expected to feel anything on hearing them, it didn’t happen.

Theo rolled his gaze toward me, his smile growing. “He was a bad guy, Owen.”

“We’re bad guys.”

“You’re moderately chaotic at best, Freckles.” He got to his feet, stepped over Sweet’s cooling body, and shook out his hands. “Damn, I feel great. That’s what I’ve been missing. A real kill, you know?”

“No, I don’t know.” Do not freak out, it’s a bad look on you. Damn that voice. “You killed a man, Theo.” I was trying not to freak out, but with every second that passed, the realization sank in. I was an accessory to murder. And on probation. Bet was going to be so mad.

“A bad man,” Theo repeated, then licked his fangs. “Don’t forget that part.”

“Bad because you say so.”

“Bad because I saw so. Killers have an oily tint, and he was a killer. Trust me. And he tasted great on his way out.”

Tasted Sweet.

A little giggle fell out of me. I stared at the body and blinked. “This is not ideal, Theo.”

Theo grinned, fangs catching the moonlight. “That was a rush.”

“What do we do with him?” I asked.

Davis was going to be real pissed.

No, not thinking about Davis. One problem at a time. Dispose of the body.

“Fuck, right . . .” Theo frowned down at the body. “Dead bodies are inconvenient. We could bury him next door?”

“I’m not going to bury a body next door with you.”

“Here, then. In these bushes. I’ll get a shovel.”

“I’m not burying a body anywhere with you.” I lowered my voice. “I’m on probation!”

“Why are you getting prissy with me? You knew what you signed up for.”

“No I didn’t. Oh, hey Owen. I give great head and murder people at parties.”

Theo frowned, then smiled slyly. “Great head, huh?”

“That is the wrong part to focus on.”
