PROLOGUE

Lane Madison

“Ty, we gotta go to San Diego sometime,” I said.

“Whenever you want, baby. Best Mexican food I’ve ever had in the US.”

“Right?!” I knew he’d understand.

Best husband ever.

“Hey, it’s still not too late,” Reese said from the back seat. “I’m sure our buddy could use more hands to carry moving boxes.”

I let out a laugh.

“Or we’ll go on our own, and we won’t have to carry anythin’ but our food,” Ty chuckled.

Let me repeat. Best husband ever.

I was still a little envious, though. Shay was gonna have a blast. I’d only been to the West Coast three times, but it was super fun with the waves they had out here. I wanted to learn how to surf too. With my limited experience, I would be lucky if I could stand upright for three seconds.

We got to the airport, and I jumped out of the truck to get a proper goodbye.

The elders took care of the luggage while I pulled Shay in for a tight hug.

“Eat all the food, and I’ll see you in a week,” I said. “You better have gained ten pounds in just chips, guacamole, and taquitos.”

He laughed and pressed a kiss to my neck. “I’ll send you some food porn.”

My mouth was already watering.

I smiled as he rested his forehead to mine. “Have all the fun, okay?”

“We will.”

Of course Reese chose that moment to take a photo of us.

“Beautiful boys. Wrap it up.” He pressed a quick kiss to the top of my head before he went over and landed a smooch to Ty’s cheek. “I’ll text you when we land.”

“Sounds good. If we don’t answer right away, we’re out in the wild somewhere turning your dogs against you,” Ty responded.

I laughed, and River chuckled under his breath and picked up his bag.

Shay shot Ty a scowl. “Don’t you dare, Sir.”

Daddy smirked and ruffled his hair. “I think you’re safe.”

Seriously. Shay adored his dogs—and it showed.

I slipped my hand into Ty’s.

“We’ll be here to pick you up in a week,” Ty added. “Bring us back T-shirts.”

River quirked a smirk and offered a two-finger wave.

“We’ll find the most outrageous, neon-colored tee just for you, buddy,” Reese replied and grabbed Shay’s hand. “See you in a week. Be good, Lane.”

“The appropriate amount of good, Sir.” I grinned and waved.
