“Don’t I fit the role you want me to play? I obviously do. I’m not the one who threw you over their shoulder, now am I? I’m just trying to fit in, and you just humiliated me again in front of most of the Academy.”

I never expected what happened next. With all her strength, she pushed me away, and I let her. As soon as she was out of my hold, she jumped off the tree branch and started to march her little ass back toward the party.

Before I even knew what I was doing, my feet were moving on their own accord, and she began running from me. I let her run, get as far away from me as she thought she could. I barely kicked up my pace, enjoying the sway of her skirt as it didn’t cover her ass as she ran away from me.

I liked the way her hair was flowing in the wind, the way her legs tore through the grass, the way she couldn’t get away from me fast enough. It was fun, watching her run from me. I enjoyed it far too much.

This was the best show I’d seen all night. There, with my hands in the pockets of my slacks, I walked behind her, never letting her out of my sight.

I mocked into the night, “You shouldn’t run into the woods, Little Red. Didn’t your grandmother warn you against wolves like me? I know she did!”

She quickly clipped to the left. I knew these woods like the back of my hand. Within seconds, I stood in front of her, and she ran straight into my chest.

I barely wavered, but she didn’t have such luck, stumbling to catch her footing with a loud huff, “Ooofff,” knocking all the air out of her lungs.

I growled from deep within my chest, tackling her to the ground. Making her body fall on top of mine, I flipped us over in a second. Her body was now beneath mine, and I caged her in with my arms on either side of her head, holding my body up, but I didn’t care if I was crushing her.

Pleasure came with pain in my world.

She glared at me. “Was that really necessary?”

“You should never run from me unless you’re looking to get hurt.” I leaned in, closing the small distance between us. “I could eat you until there’s nothing left of you. Is that what you want?” Slowly, I rubbed my lips over hers. I barely touched her mouth, but just enough to prove my point that she did want my lips on hers. “My mouth on you?” Back and forth, I brushed my lips along hers as I reached up and grabbed her face.

With my thumbs caressing the soft skin of her cheeks, I dug my own grave when I slammed my mouth onto hers. Words couldn’t describe this moment in time. For a second, it seemed like the world stopped spinning, and it was only us.

Right there, on the grass, with me on top of her, I felt everything. From her lips to her chest to her pussy…

Mine.

Her lips were rough but smooth against mine. Her heartbeat was so fast, I could feel it pounding in my skull, in my bones, in my soul, or whatever was left of it. Trying to follow the movement of my mouth, she slowly parted her lips as I pulled her closer to me as if we already weren’t close enough.

I set the pace for us.

She moaned when my tongue touched her lips, causing this tingling to come alive in the core of my body. As soon as my tongue sought out hers, she was done for. I got lost in the curse that was her scent, her taste, her all-consuming ways.

Another soft moan escaped her mouth, and I kissed her harder.

Faster.

Leaving her breathless and wanting more. Incoherent thoughts ran rampant in my mind. One right after the other, it was a hurricane of confusion, and in its wake was her, standing in the eye of the storm with her in my arms.

I could feel she was fighting the same internal battle I was, but she couldn’t resist me as much as I couldn’t resist her.

“What are you doing to me?” she breathed out against my lips. “I hate you, Onyx. Why are you trying to make me fall for you when you hate me too?”

My phone rang. My father’s ringtone quickly filled the air. It was enough to make me stop and get off her, feeling like a grenade was tossed on top of us. She didn’t move. She just lay there perfectly still.

“Let’s go.”

Her puzzled but aroused stare met mine. “What?”

I grabbed her arm, pulling her up next to me. “I’m driving you home.”

Like the night she danced in the woods for me, she repeated, “Jekyll meet Hyde.”

“Would you prefer me to go on?”

“I don’t know what I want anymore,” she murmured so low I could barely hear her, bowing her head in what I imagined was shame.
