“Our parents worked for a man named Thaddeus. He’s also married to our auntie Imani. He has this organization, if you want to call it that, of professional hitmen and hitwomen. When they died, me and my brothers went to live with our aunt and Thaddeus. They raised us and introduced us to the organization when we were fourteen.”
“Why would they introduce you to something so…I don’t want to saw awful, but I can’t think of any other word.”
“It’s cool, I’m not offended. It sounds awful to you, but when they told us the truth about what our parents did. It did not scare us at all if anything it made us more connected to them. Me and my brothers talked that night in Greek’s room, and we agreed to get into the business.
We figured if our parents were bad ass at it then we would be to. The next day we talked to Thaddeus and told him that we wanted to join. After that, we started boot camp and our lives changed.
You would have thought we were preparing for war. It took two years of training before we were allowed to go on jobs with Thaddeus and auntie Imani.”
“When was the first time you killed someone?” I asked in a low tone.
“Fourteen.”
My mouth dropped. “But you said---
“Professionally. We did not kill anyone professionally. The first day of boot camp, Thaddeus took us to a big factory. There were three men tied up and looked like someone beat their asses. Thaddeus stood in front of us, gave us a gun, and told us to shoot them. Guns were very familiar to us because of our dad so using one wasn’t a problem. It was a test in our commitment.”
“Who pulled the trigger first, never mind I already know who.”
Halo smirked and asked, “Who?”
“Greek.” I confidently answered.
“You’d think that but naw. I did and I felt alive the second the bullet pierced the man’s head. Then Greek and Golden were last.”
“Wow. Now you three are fully trained hitmen.”
He nodded his head. “Yeah. You’d be surprised the people we’ve killed and killed for. It’s a whole system and protocol we have. You can’t just come to us with any amount of money and hire us. It’s exclusive, selective, and once we accept a job it gets done.”
“What if I hired you and I changed my mind?? Do I get a refund?”
Halo laughed, “Hell no. All you get is a warning to never come back and try to hire us again. Look Story, what I do is more than just a job. It’s my lifestyle and I am better at that than I am at breathing. But when it comes to me and you, I’ll just say this. You with the right nigga.”
I breathed in and out then a small smile appeared on my face. “Halo Stone, I believe that I will never meet another man like you for as long as I live.” A screech escaped my mouth when he yanked me on top of him.
“That means you still wanna fuck wit’ me?”
“Absolutely babe.”
He rewarded my answer with a kiss, and it turned into something more. This kissing session spoke volumes to one another. For me, I was letting him know that I wasn’t going anywhere. I felt like he was letting me know that he wasn’t about to allow me to go anywhere.
“You always make me feel good and now I want the chance to do the same for you.” Halo told me when he laid me on my back.
“As long as you’re ready then I’m fine with that.”
“I’m beyond ready Story, I think about it a lot even in my damn dreams. And I have had the same nightmare for years until I met you.” He started licking my neck then spoke in my ear. “I need you to keep silencing my trauma like you’ve been doing. Your voice, laugh, smile, touch, and scent all got me wanting to just devour you.”
His hand pulled my panties down and pulled my pajama shirt over my head. When he took his boxer off and got on top then kissed me. I don’t know why I became nervous as if it’s my first time. Halo was so hard that it felt like a heavy piece of steel when it touched me.
“I need you to bear with me while I do this and keep holding my hand.” He said low with his deep voice.
I looked in his eyes, and they watered but he blinked them away. It made mine water and a little guilt washed over me.
“Halo, babe I don’t---
“I’m good Story, swear I am. This is what I want to do, just don’t let my hand go.” The next thing he said was so low that I barely heard him. He sounded like a child who was confessing something they were guilty of. “She never held my hand or touched me. It’s how I know this is different.”
My damn heart was breaking and full at the same time from what he whispered. It broke because of his past. But it was full because he figured out a way to overcome something big in his life that was supposed to always be a great sexual experience. But a disgusting person ruined it.
