“He is not here yet mam.”
I took my phone out of my purse and called him. He did not answer so I called three more times and it was the same. I may be a hypocrite, but I became envious when I thought of him being with another woman. My taste in men was an addiction that I had to have.
It was physically impossible for Keanu to scratch my itch. But he has no reason at all to step out on me. I was everything any man could ever want. With my hand on my hip and my phone in my other hand. I went to the tracker app that I had the private investigator put on both of Keanu’s cars. One was in the garage so that meant he was in his BMW.
“This sleezy asshole!” I marched out of the kitchen when I saw where he was.
Grabbing my purse, car keys, and coat I stormed out of the house. He was at Story’s apartment building. When I first had a feeling that he was cheating I dismissed it until two months ago. His mood was different, he was more irritable, so I hired a private investigator.
Turns out, he was cheating with a young bimbo. Story Macallister, she was beautiful and my envy grew more than it ever had. I planned on killing her, but my mind changed when I saw the fire she had in her.
But I gave her a warning, and I thought she was smart. Apparently, I was wrong. The gate to her apartment must have been malfunctioning because it was open when I arrived. I looked at the app on my phone to make sure I was not in sight of Keanu’s car.
I found a good parking space and got out. Making sure I was hiding, I saw that he wasn’t in his car. I went to my text messages and saw the investigator texting me Story’s apartment number. I walked inside and decided to take the stairs to her apartment on the second floor.
I stopped when I saw Keanu in front of her door. He had a small tool in his hand. In seconds, he was inside. Luck was on my team because right when I was about to move, Story walked up the stairs.
She was on the phone laughing when she went inside and closed the door. I rushed to the door and pressed my ear to it. All I could hear was Story on the phone. Keanu must be hiding. I needed to get inside but had no clue how.
In half an hour I heard a noise then a bang. I did not know what was going on until the door opened. Keanu and I were face to face. I pushed him back inside and closed the door.
“What did you do?” I questioned him because he looked disheveled, sweating and out of breath.
He was stunned to see me.
“When you arrived at the second home that you told me you rented out to a family. I was there instead of Story, and you were shocked. I told you that I warned her to leave you alone.
You swore to me that you would never step out on me again. I track you here, breaking into her apartment. What happened Keanu? You know what, move.” I rushed past him before he could stop me.
Story was out cold on the floor with a cut on the side of her head.
Screaming would cause more attention, so I covered my mouth. Keanu ran in and turned me around.
“I broke in because she had some dirt on me in her phone. It was a conversation she recorded of me on the phone handling business. Story tried to tell the police, so I planned to steal her phone. But she woke up, we started fighting and I hit her head against the wall. We need to leave.”
I started to do so but I refused. No, we need to take her with us.
“What? Arabia we can’t do that.” He fought against it.
“We can and we will. She is not dead and when she wakes up what do you think will be the first thing she’ll do? Call the cops. Pick her up and go down the stairs. My car is closer to the door and it’s dark.” I gave him my car keys.
Keanu agreed at all. He picked her up and left. I searched for her phone and found it under the pillow. When I picked it up it vibrated but that’s not what stopped me. The name read, Halo. Even though there are thousands of people who could have that name.
Something told me that this was my Halo. Halo Stone who I tried to erase from my mind for the last twenty-two years. I watched her phone ring until it stopped. Then a text message came through.
I could not see it because it was locked and only her fingerprint could unlock it. I put her phone in her pocket and left her apartment. When I got outside, Keanu had her in my back seat.
“Now what?” He asked me.
“We are taking her to our house in the basement. I’ll follow behind you and the next time you think about cheating on me, don’t.” I slapped him across his face then got in my car.
I followed him home, at first, I was going to have him kill her tonight and dup her body in the woods. But seeing Halo call her, I decided against it. I thought back to 2008 when I first met him. I do not care what anyone says about our age difference.
We were meant to be, and I knew it when I first met him. He had an aura to him that gave him an old soul. I started clearly understanding mom’s feelings about Dylan. The connection was instantly and age did not matter. We were soul mates. Wednesdays and Thursday’s we made those our special time.
I planned on waiting it out for Halo until my sister died and I had to choose. When I left, I could not bear to tell him goodbye, so I put him behind me. Now, it was fate giving me another chance with him. I just had to figure out how to appear back in his life.
When me and Keanu arrived back home, I made sure Celia was in her bedroom. Then Keanu carried Story to our finished basement. The room where we kept the washing machine and dryer were separated. It was in a concrete room with only a cinderblock high window.
