I took in all of him as we rolled across the bed, taking time to smile, talk, and kiss each other.
He didn’t fuck me. For the first time in my thirty-plus years on this earth, I was making love, and it was amazing. He caressed my body softly. Each touch, every kiss was intentional.
He talked me through it, with each stroke, making me pull into him more each time.
We came together and didn’t move, just laid there kissing and touching. We had our legs tangled together, staring into each other's eyes as he moved my hair out of my face.
“How do you feel now?” Shyheim asked.
I laughed a little bit. “I feel good, much better.”
He smiled back at me. “I want to be there for you in every way that I can, Mariah, but I think—I know that for me to do that, you have to let go of your husband and sign the papers.”
I raised my eyebrows as I sat up in bed. “Are you friends with him or something? You are rushing me to sign it too.”
“What?” Shy yelled out. “Mariah, please chill out. You know I don’t know that man.”
“Then why are you pushing me to divorce him?”
Shy looked at me like I was crazy. “Mariah, I am trying to be considerate. But baby girl, you have been at my house crying over how a nigga is in the streets and have been doing you wrong, don’t want you, and you asking me why I'm sayin’ that you need to divorce him? Because you been here and I have been there for you, and we just had sex, the fuck.”
I got out of bed and looked around his room for my things.
“How dare you talk to me like this! I thought you were here to support me.”
“I am trying to support you, Mariah. But I be damn if I'm catching feelings for a girl that has no intention of leaving her husband.”
I remembered all my shit was downstairs and stormed into his bathroom and came back out with a towel wrapped around me.
“I told you I needed time to figure out what I wanted.”
“What do you need time for? He told you he didn’t want you anymore. He slept with your friend. He is dating somebody else. What else do you want that man to do to tell you to move on?”
I couldn’t believe how Shyheim was talking to me. I never thought he would come at me like that.
“I am so glad that your true colors came out before anything more happened between us.”
He laughed as I walked out of his room.
“I'm glad to. The studio be saying you're crazy. I said you were just hurt, but in all honesty, you are fucking crazy, Mariah.”
I ran out of his room, down the steps, and put my clothes back on, trying not to cry.
“I gave you a chance!” I yelled up the steps.
Shyheim came out of his room.
“You didn’t give me shit, Mariah! I bet if we laid in that bed for five more minutes, you would have started talking about Rosama.”
“He’s my husband!”
“BUT YOU JUST FUCKED ME!”
I stood there for a second, looking at him, and he laughed at me.
“Just go, Mariah, and when that man tells you again that he don’t want you, PLEASE, I beg you, PLEASE, do not come running back to me.”
I nodded. “Fine, Shyheim.”
