I shot the nigga in his head and hopped back in my car like shit didn’t even happen.

When I got back to my block, Dre looked at my face and walked down to my car.

“Shit go left?” he asked.

I nodded. “Yeah, the nigga tried to rob me.”

Dre looked at me like he was in shock. I wasn’t. That’s what came with the territory. I was the nigga around Brooklyn and good in any hood I went to. The only thing that mattered was how you carried yourself and niggas when shit went down.

“Where the nigga now?” Dre asked, knowing I liked to torture niggas who liked to try me like that.

“Laying out where I met him.”

Dre shook his head. “I been telling you, I think it’s time you move different. You’re not making lil’ money, picking up lil’ guns. You puttin’ in real work in these streets.”

For the first time in a while, I was taking in what Dre was saying. That nigga might have been right, and since I was trying to bring Nylah into my world, I needed to move smarter.

“Put the team together, and I will slide through Saturday. Tomorrow I have a date with my future.”

Dre laughed. “Shorty that you ran into the back of?”

“Yeah, and you laughin’, but watch. She gonna be sitting right beside me while I hit licks.”

As I walked up the steps, relaxed for a minute, Dre yelled, “I thought you had too much on your plate?”

“I do… I honestly do. But that girl… I don’t know what it is about her yet, but I think she’s gonna complement me the way I need…just watch.”

Chapter 6

Nylah

It was Friday, the day of my supposed-to-be date with Rosama, and I was at work, working my ass off. The store was packed, with new and old customers coming to shop to catch up.

Denise and I were both running to the back, replenishing the stock when needed and fulfilling some pre-orders she had going on. I liked that the day was busy. It kept my mind off my personal life and how niggas swore they could play in my face.

When we finally closed for lunch, I slouched down on the couch, kicking my shoes off.

“Girllll….” I said, rubbing my forehead. “I am tired as hell.”

Denise nodded as she took a seat in the other chair. “Me too. I just ordered us some lunch.”

We went on talking about all the people in the store when my phone went off with a message from Rosama. I sucked my teeth and locked my phone back.

“Who the hell got you like that?”

“That nigga that ran into the back of me, Rosama. Raven didn’t tell you?”

She shook her head, and I sat up.

“Me and him chopped it up a bit, then he asked me on a date. Later that day, Raven and I slid to Brooklyn for dinner. I saw him comin’ outta a spot with some bitch on his arm.”

“You think he was tryna play with you?”

“Hell yeah,” I said quickly. “And I am not the one to be played with.”

Denise nodded. “Girl, I already know how you move. I am surprised you haven’t blocked him.”

I smirked. “Nah, I can tell most bitches don’t do him the way I'm finna do him. I want a receipt.”
