After a while, we pulled up to the party, and it was already jumping. The music was loud. There were people everywhere, and the niggas? The niggas were different fonts, shapes, and colors of fine.

Some dark and tall, some light and tall, some short and tatted, some tall and tatted. It was almost like somebody was in the back making them niggas and sending them out, and me and my girls wasn’t mad at all.

“I am so glad I told my nigga not to come,” Denise said.

“Facts, I told mine I would send him some pictures tho,” Ari chimed in.

“Come on,” I said loudly, trying to overtalk the music. “Let’s go get a drink.”

I locked arms and moved through the crowd of people and made it to the bar. Raven ordered all of us some drinks while Ari cleaned a table for us.

As I was helping Raven with the drinks, this nigga at the bar caught my eye.

“Raven, take these. I’ll be there in a few.”

Raven saw what I saw and gave me a wink as she walked off.

As soon as she was away from me, the nigga walked ova to me.

“Wussup, ma?” he said, leaning into my ear.

“Nothin, wussup with you?”

“Shiitt, I'm tryin’ to get to know you.”

I smiled. “Then do that then.”

We went on talking for a few more minutes, nothin personal, just the basic shit: age, job, relationship status. Once all that was out of the way, he leaned into me again.

“Can we dance?”

Without another word, I took his hand, and he led me out to the dance floor. I wasn’t thinking too deep into it. It was just a dance, but as we moved, I could feel myself loosen up even more. He felt good against me, and I knew I looked good against him with all the eyes that were on us and the niggas dapping him up.

I was feeling good, enjoying the moment, when the energy changed.

The nigga I was dancing with, Cory, was looking past me at something behind me.

I turned around and looked, and Rosama was standing there. The music stopped, and I stopped dancing, but Cory didn’t move off me as Rosama walked ova.

“I don’t know if she told you, my boy,” Rosama said low. “But she is taken.”

Cory looked at me. “She said she was talkin’ to a nigga, but they were on a break.”

Rosama and I locked eyes, then he looked back at Cory.

“She’s not talkin’ to anybody. She is in a relationship, and WE are not on a break.”

Cory looked at me, and I looked away. I didn’t even know what to say.

“My fault, brah,” Cory said as he walked away.

The music started back up, and Rosama walked ova to me.

“Walk outside,” he whispered with force in my ear.

I looked up at him. “No.”

He yanked me up by my arm and shoved me to the door.
