If he’s not careful, I’m going to put a bullet through his head, consequences be damned because he’s on my last nerve.

“Give me Kingston’s number,” he demands.

“No,” I grind out. There’s nothing the boss values more than privacy, and the fact a whole room of people know he’s the owner of Hawk Security is already shoving me further into the bad books. I refuse to give someone who has been hunting him for decades his direct line.

“I need to know she’s okay.”

“Join the fucking club. It’s still not happening.”

Camilla rolls her eyes from where she’s perched in Crew’s lap, her own phone in her hands as she taps away on the screen.

We’ve retreated back to the private jet we arrived on just in case we have to make a quick getaway, but without any idea where to go, we’re in limbo.

“I’ve already tried calling him,” she tells us. “It went straight to voicemail, so I suspect he has his phone off, and I can’t imagine turning it on to find an inbox full of threats is going to make him want to let us know how Chloe is.”

I smirk across at Ronan smugly. Apart from the knowledge that his family held my girl captive on two separate occasions, I can’t figure out why the guy irks me so much.

Maybe it’s because he knows what it feels like to be inside Chloe. The fact it had been ten years since she had had sex, I assume he was the last person to touch her, and given their age, it’s possible he’s the only other person on this earth that she’s been intimate with.

Or it could be that he helped to take her from me, that despite him being the one to free her, he’s also the reason we’re in this mess. His jealousy got the best of him, and he chose to help his asshole brother kidnap her.

Ronan huffs out a sigh and drops back against his seat.

Good.

If I had it my way, he wouldn’t even be on this goddamn plane. He’d be delivered back to the Lombardis like the traitor he is.

But that’s not what Chloe would want, and therefore I refuse to give in to the urge.

“You guys should head back to New York,” I say, meeting Crew’s eye across the aisle. “Kingston won’t hurt her, and we won’t find him until he wants to be found.”

Camilla opens her mouth to argue, but Bishop nods in agreement before she can. “He’s right, Love. She’s not in immediate danger with Kingston, and we can’t be away from the city forever. Crew and I are fielding things as best we can from here, but we need to start putting things into place for our next chapter.”

She sighs and presses her eyes closed. It’s rare for Camilla to show weakness with anyone other than her men, but if the dark circles beneath her eyes and winces of pain are anything to go by, she needs time to recover as well. “Fine, but Ryker and Ronan will keep looking for her. Together.”

I’m about to argue when the asshole across from me gets to it first. “Absolutely not,” he snaps. “I’ll find her myself and bring her back to New York.”

I chuckle, but the sound is devoid of humor. “Haven’t you been looking for Kingston for years? What makes you think you’re going to find him now? At least I worked for the guy. I know where his safe houses are, where his private residences are. I have a much better chance of finding her than you and your zero resources.”

It’s a low blow reminding him of everything he’s lost by leaving with Chloe, but I’ve reached my wit’s end with him. Maybe if I upset him enough, he’ll leave, and I won’t have to kill him.

The thought disappoints me more than it should, reminding me of how long it’s been since I’ve killed someone. If I don’t have blood coating my hands soon, I might break out in hives.

Before he can reply, my phone buzzes in my hand, and my chest tightens. There are so few people with this number, and something that feels a lot like hope creeps into the organ that keeps me alive.

The Boss

I almost drop the phone in my haste to answer it when I realize who’s calling.

“Hello?”

“Ryker,” he greets gruffly. “Four hundred and thirty-seven missed calls, really?”

“If you didn’t block my number, I wouldn’t have had to keep calling,” I snap. “Do you have Chloe? Is she okay?”

“I do, and she is.”

I pinch the bridge of my nose at how little information he’s giving me. I should be grateful that he’s giving me anything at all given my own betrayal, but I’m desperate for more. Desperate to talk to the woman who changed something inside me. “Where are you?”
