As well as being a ruthless murderer, he’s also one of the best hackers I’ve ever encountered.

“Do you have a recent list of the hits the team has carried out?” he asks, not bothering to look up at Kingston.

“The team?” The words escape before I get the chance to stop them.

“Ryker does most of the…complex cases, but we have four other guys that work for us. They were trained by The Hunter back when he was doing hits.”

“The Hunter?” I ask, my brows lifting into my hairline.

That masked asshole in Los Angeles has caused us more issues over the years than I can count, but I never realized he trained anyone to take his place.

He nods, handing a list to Ryker before he responds. “We don’t have much to do with him now, but the guys still see him from time to time.”

The soft taps of Ryker’s fingers on the keyboard and the crackling of the fire make for a soothing background noise, and for the first time in what feels like months, I allow myself to relax.

Ever since Chloe stepped back into my life, things have been so chaotic I haven’t been able to rest completely.

But she’s safe here.

Because if there’s one thing I know with absolute certainty, it’s that every single one of us would put our lives on the line for her.

Damon included.

CHAPTER FORTY-TWO

CHLOE

NOW

Cool air rushes around me as the blankets are lifted behind me, but a moment later, my back is covered by a warm body.

A very naked warm body.

Ryker’s signature scent wraps around me like a warm hug, and I allow myself to relax into his arms.

I thought I’d be able to sleep after all the excitement of the day, but despite how exhausted I am, sleep never came.

“You’re wearing too much,” he murmurs, trailing kisses along my shoulder.

“I’m wearing a shirt,” I retort.

“A shirt that doesn’t belong to me, which means it’s too much.”

A soft laugh falls from my throat at how ridiculous he’s being. “So you’re telling me if this shirt belonged to you that you’d be okay with me wearing it to bed?”

“For the purpose of this discussion, yes.” His lips tip into a smile against my throat, and my own makes my cheeks ache.

I have no idea how he managed to worm his way into my heart, but he’s become my safe place. The one I seek out when the world feels a little too loud.

“I missed you,” I admit.

“God, I missed you so fucking much, Siren. I was going out of my mind.”

“More so than usual?” I giggle, earning me a rough chuckle.

“Oh, you have no idea.”

The arm banded around my middle slides down until tattooed fingers find my barely there underwear.
