Her lips curl into a smile. “That’s great. Thank you.”

I notice her fists curl and uncurl like she wants to touch me.

“Don’t even think about touching me, little omega. I’ll have you in some very compromising positions all over this room.”

She visibly swallows. Then blinks. “Like I’d ever fuck you. Grumpy sheriffs aren’t a turn-on.”

“But the bear shifter is?” I step back, running a hand over my hair.

She’s sending me over the edge.

Walker pinches the bridge of her nose briefly. “I’m not interested in Fitch, you-”

I cut off her words, “Evan.”

“He’s sweet, but I’ve sworn off men.”

“I thought you had a boyfriend,” I blurt out and mentally curse myself.

She smiles again. “Dug pretty deep while doing that background check, huh?”

“It was a thorough background check. He attended your gallery opening with you.”

“Again, I’m only interested in finding the perpetrator.”

“It’s not safe for you to stay in that camper way out there alone,” I tell her.

“Sheriff, I can take care of myself.”

“It’s not safe,” I say again.

She pats my muscled chest and I almost lose it. Almost.

“Don’t worry, big guy. Fitch will watch out for me.” She turns on one of those fuck-me heels and struts out of the room. My eyes fall on all that ass.

I’d have to hook up with one of my regular omegas soon.

A few minutes later, I place a gigantic pile of papers on Walker’s desk that’s right outside my office.

“File these alphabetically.”

Her eyes widen. “Sheriff Drake, you aren’t serious? This will take all day.”

“Very,” I smirk as I walk away.

“Asshole,” she growls.

I halt and peer at her over my shoulder. “What’s that?”

She shut her pretty lips.

“I have a branch stuck up my ass.”

Gasps fall around the office.

Walker stands and begin working the stack.

Guess there’s nothing to say when you know you're busted.
