Hendrix surprised me more and more. We didn’t know enough about each other’s backgrounds for him to be so generous. However, I believed because he was looking at me as his family that he was willing to do any and everything for me.

“Thank you, Hendrix. I’m grateful.”

“Take care of my baby. That’s all you owe me. Now let’s go eat or something. A nigga stomach touching his back.”

Chapter Thirteen

AVIANA

“You can crash on the couch for another night or so, but you can’t stay here Avi. I have a husband and you have a type. My niece will always have a room here, but you on the other hand…”

“Jamilla you and Kenny aren’t married for one, and two, what happened to never living with a nigga? Seems to me like you’ve had a change of heart.”

“That nigga loves my dirty draws and I’d be a dummy to pass that kind of love up. He treats me well so I’m changing for him. I’m not you Aviana,” she commented making sure to let me know I fucked up.

Hendrix threw me and my child on the streets and because of that, everyone was looking at me shaking their heads and getting the last laugh. I used to talk about the money he had and how he took care of us but somehow, I was on the other side and had absolutely nothing. I was the bum friend now.

Woods would’ve been my back up plan, but he was married and that blew me because I slept at his house before and never noticed a woman’s touch. Hell, as much as he was up my ass, people thought I was his woman for real. I was confused on where the fuck the wife came from. He ate my ass every chance he got and that was daily.

“What is that supposed to mean?” I questioned with my face screwed up.

“You had a man that was a hundred percent dedicated to you and that little girl but decided to step out on him because he got busy. Kenny was ready for me, but I wasn’t and that was the only thing slowing us down. I took him seriously when he bought me this house and proposed.”

She held up her hand and revealed her ring. We were best friends, and she didn’t say a word about her engagement. Maybe she really wasn’t rocking with me the way I thought.

“When did this happen and why wouldn’t you tell me?”

“A couple of weeks ago and because you’re never happy for anyone in your life. Why would I tell you all for my moment to be ruined with your negativity? Let’s be real Aviana, we aren’t real friends and I realized that. We were just two bitches in competition with each other. I can’t lie and say you ain’t motivate me at times because you did. I used to think I wanted the life you had but baby I’ll take my quiet life with Kenny any day.”

“Tuh. Yeah, right. Once he finds out that you were on another dick not too long ago, he’ll walk too,” I threw back trying not to be the only one in the wrong.

“He knows. I told him and we moved past it, hence the house I’m standing in. He claimed he wasn’t letting me go for shit and I believed him. I may be ratchet or ghetto, but that nigga loves the ground I walk on.”

“Him loving a hoe is crazy to me. I have got to ask him this shit myself.”

“You won’t have the chance to. I’m glad I finally realized that you want everyone either beneath you or in misery with you. That won’t happen here. I wish you the best of luck Aviana.”

She grabbed my duffle bag and carried it to the door. She was putting me out knowing I had nowhere to go. If I could take back every word I said, I would. Akeera was at my sister’s, but she made it clear that I wasn’t welcomed at her home with her baby daddy. They could ask me for money but denied me shelter because of their men. That was mind blowing to me.

I knew coming to Jamilla I would have a roof over my head, but she was shutting me out as well. I figured the day would come eventually because I treated her horribly. I did certain things that made her feel bad or to make her jealous and it was coming back to bite me in the ass.

“Where am I supposed to go JaJa? I have no money right now. Hendrix turned my cards off and I’m being rejected by my sister.”

She walked past me and returned a few seconds later with her wallet in tow. She fished out a few hundred dollars and shoved them into my chest. I was in shock at how she was behaving.

“Here. That should be enough to grant you a room for at least a week. Call us even. Now, please leave my home before my husband gets here. He doesn’t really care for you.”

“Are you serious right now? After all the shit I’ve done for you, you gon’ put me out. I helped you get your first place, and this is the thanks I get. You really ain’t shit, Jamilla.”

“Yeah, you’ve told me that every chance you got and bitch the last thing I want is a muthafucka around me that don’t appreciate me. Bye.”

She opened her door and threw my bag out of it. I was supposed to follow suit, but I couldn’t without getting my rocks off first. I hit her dead in her shit, and we got to banging right there. It wasn’t her fault that Hendrix left me high and dry, but she could’ve been more of a friend than she was. I expected more.

We got to tussling in her doorway but was quickly separated when I was thrown to the ground. I looked up into the face of Kenny and he wasn’t pleased with what he saw.

“Bitch ass nigga keep your fuckin’ hands off me. This is between me and my friend!” I shouted.

“Bitch, fuck you. My woman ain’t shit to your goofy ass. I advise you to get the fuck off my property before it becomes an issue for real,” he said with the meanest mug on his face. I could tell he had no problem with putting his hands on me.
