“Where’s EJ?” she questioned, flipping a pancake.
“I haven’t talked to her yet. Knowing her though, she’s on her way over here.”
My condo seemed to be the meet up spot for us. It was smack dead in the middle of the city, and everything was pretty much accessible from here. Plus, the guest bedrooms I claimed to have housed their things in them. This was practically their second home.
“Cool. I’ll just put her plate in the microwave then.”
Daria began to fix our plates as I sat there thinking about the spoken for man that gave me the time of my life. A man that was never thought of before was now on a constant replay. He had the nerve to bless me with great dick and then depart without saying another word. Selfishly, I didn’t care about his broad, family or whatever he had with her. I just wanted another dose of him.
My body was fine without his touch but since I’ve been held in his arms, I craved his gentle touch again. However, life never worked that way. Last night was once in a lifetime pleasurable and would never be granted again. I had no choice but to let it go.
Suddenly, my front door opened and like I knew she would, EJ was coming around the corner. My little sister was my shadow and didn’t go a day without being under me. I wondered how she was going to be when I went to the second office.
She walked up to me and gave me the biggest hug followed by a kiss on the cheek. This was her routine whenever she saw me. I adored her life the same way she did mine. I wouldn’t be half the person I was today without her.
“Hey baby. You good?”
“Yeah. I went home and slept last night. What happened with you and Hendrix?”
“She got that back blown out the way she was supposed to,” Daria blurted out then put a foot up on my counter and started twerking.
“You so ghetto, it’s crazy. Do better,” I said throwing a piece of toast at her.
“Did you really give that man some of your good stuff sissy? He has a woman,” EJ commented.
I knew I would get a different reaction from her than Daria. They were the complete opposite in many ways. While EJ was big on karma, D dealt with it however it came and kept it pushing. She also lived carefree, not being concerned with people’s feelings in return.
“I know Erykah.”
“He wasn’t even all that for you to be getting that kind of karma in your life.” She took a seat next to me with a little attitude.
“Just because he wasn’t bright and pretty like the men you deal with doesn’t mean he isn’t all that. Stop judging him.”
“His friend was fine. That’s who you should’ve been on.”
I peeped the light skin dude that was beside him when I entered their section at the club. He was indeed too pretty for my liking. Plus, he was flashy, and I didn’t deal with those type of men. If EJ found him attractive, that was her prerogative.
“Hendrix and his crew don’t have to worry about me sis. They’re in the past now and your ass needs to leave them there. What happened, happened. Let it go.”
“I hear you. Have you gone furniture shopping for your building yet?”
“No. We can do that today. I wanted it to be fully furnished by Monday. That way when I hire an assistant, we can look professional.”
“Cool. You haven’t told them people yet, have you?”
I knew who she was referring to when she said, ‘them people.’ Struggling to hold a straight face, I shook my head and giggled. She really disliked our family, and she never gave them a pass.
“I didn’t. I’m respecting your wishes baby.”
I neglected telling her about the conversation I had with Kara. Again, there was no beef there, but she preferred to keep our accomplishments far away from them.
“Good. I was thinking after you get your office up and running, we hold a real celebration with the staff. I think they deserve some treats for being such wonderful employees. We’ve never got a complaint and they work so hard.”
“That’s a dope idea baby. I think they’ll appreciate that. Maybe a $100 VISA gift card, a bottle of wine, and maybe a coupon to a spa.”
“I was thinking just give them bitches a card and twenty dollars but that’ll work,” she responded with a shrug.
She got that cheap shit from our daddy. These women and men worked their ass off for us. It was the least we could do. They really deserved more but it was all I could afford to give them comfortably.
