She smiled against my chest.
“You know what else is insane?”
“I assume you’re going to tell me.”
“It’s been six days.”
“It has.”
“People are going to think we’ve lost our minds.”
“People think many things.”
“That’s very philosophical.”
“I don’t care what they think.”
“There it is.”
“What?”
“The sheikh answer.”
I kissed the top of her head.
“What’s the Omaha answer?”
“Probably that I should’ve gone home, made a spreadsheet, asked three friends, slept on it for a month, and then panicked anyway.”
“That sounds inefficient.”
“It’s extremely American.”
“I doubt that.”
She laughed softly.
Then she looked toward the city.
“My plane left hours ago.”
“It did.”
“You didn’t stop it.”
“No, I didn’t.”
“I did.”
I touched the ring on her finger.
“Yes, you did.”
Chrissy turned toward me.
“I’m glad.”
I held her closer.
