“Tell her to go home,” Alejandro barks.
“What? No.” I try to wriggle out from underneath him, but he keeps me pinned between his powerful thighs. “It’s late, and there must be something wrong if she’s come here. Let her in, Jacob.”
“I said tell her to go home,” Alejandro repeats.
“What? Why would you do that?”
“Alana!” he growls a warning.
I manage to push him away and jump off the sofa. “She’s sixteen years old, and she’s alone and scared. We are not sending her away on her own, Alex.”
He sits back against the sofa and glares at me. “Take her home in one of the cars, Jacob.”
“Don’t you dare,” I say to Jacob, who’s staring at us with his fingers on the door handle and his mouth hanging open.
Alejandro stands and turns to him. “I said take her home.”
Jacob’s eyes dart to me.
“Let her in,” I insist.
“What the fuck are you waiting for, Jacob?” Alejandro shouts. “Take her home.”
“But Mrs. Montoya said she should come in,” Jacob stammers, and I’m filled with admiration for him.
“And since when do you listen to Alana and not me?”
Jacob fidgets with the collar of his shirt. “Since you told me to run all household decisions by her, Boss?”
I smile, triumphant, while Alejandro blinks in shock. He did indeed tell his staff that very thing when I returned from New York, and now it’s biting him on the ass.
“I am telling you this isn’t a household issue, Jacob,” he snarls. “You are not to let that girl inside the gates.”
Jacob nods solemnly. There’s only so far he’s willing to push Alejandro, and he’s obviously reached his limit.
I glare at my husband. My heart is racing now, because what the hell am I missing? He’s not cruel for no reason, so why has he taken such an aversion to a pregnant sixteen-year-old girl?
“What kind of issue is it?” I demand. “Why won’t you let Lucy in here?”
His tongue darts out of his mouth, and he licks his lower lip before running a hand through his hair in exasperation. “Because her name isn’t Lucy for a start. She is not who you think she is, Alana.”
My head spins and my stomach sinks. “Then who is she?”
Alejandro’s eyes are fixed on mine, and I instinctively know this is not going to be good.
