Chapter Five

Amelia

I sat on the bed, listingall the reasons I shouldn’t be doing what I was about to do with Jasper.

I didn’t know him that well.

I’d only gotten to Vermont today.

My future was uncertain at best now that my pack was gone.

My pack was gone.

I had to wait until Monday to speak to an Alpha.

Jasper. Was. A. Human.

Having sex with a human was something rogue wolves did. Not wolves like me who came from a reputable bloodline and had spent her entire life as part of a pack.

But I didn’t have a pack anymore. Maybe pack rules didn’t apply to me right now. Perhaps I could be granted this brief break from my werewolf life and enjoy something nice and good and sexy with Jasper.

I could tell him I’d changed my mind. He wouldn’t be upset. I could tell he was that kind of guy. He’d even stopped kissing me to make sure I wanted to do this. I’d been with my own kind and those wolves had never once asked me what I wanted. I’d given. They’d taken. We’d scratched itches and gone our separate ways. Lunai hadn’t blessed any of those unions.

But had she put me in Jasper’s path—or him in mine—for a reason? Was she giving me the green light to choose him?

I flopped back on the bed and stared up at the ceiling, wishing the Moon Goddess would appear and answer my questions. I’d heard tales of her visiting werewolves, but I hadn’t had the pleasure of such a meeting. I could use a consultation though.

“Okay, Sammy is occupied for a good thirty minutes now.” Jasper, shirtless and tasty as fuck with well-sculpted pecs and abs on display, walked toward the bed.

My need for a Lunai consultation vanished in a haze of desire so strong I wouldn’t have been able to keep my hands and mouth off Jasper if the Moon Goddess commanded it.

“Thirty minutes? Think we’ll need that long?” I smiled, loving how his cheeks colored and his eyes darkened.

“Probably not for one round.” He tossed something on the bed, and my mind quickly registered it as an entire box of condoms. “But I have a feeling one round isn’t going to be enough.”

I slid to the edge of the bed and kneeled, holding my hands out and motioning for him to come to me. When he did, I ran my fingers over his abs, ridge-by-ridge, then pressed kisses over his chest up to the curve of his neck.

Jasper’s arms came around me, his palms warm through the cotton of my tank top. He lowered his head and kissed a line along my shoulder and collarbone. A few light nips had me growling in pleasure.

“I love that sound,” Jasper whispered in my ear before he sucked my earlobe into his mouth, grazing it with his teeth.

I had to remind myself that I wasn’t with a fellow wolf. He might love these small growls, but if I let loose some of the noises werewolves made when having sex, he’d no doubt freak and run.

And I couldn’t handle being alone right now. Not after losing Uncle Noah and the Vanner pack. Not after losing my home.

Jasper’s fingers curled around the bottom of my tank top, and he slowly peeled it up until it came off completely. A wolfish sound rumbled in his throat this time as he took in the sight of my breasts in a black lace bra. His hands coasted over the tops of the mounds, and that gentle scrape had goosebumps breaking out all over my body.

“God, you’re so beautiful, Amelia.” He dipped his head and kissed above each breast. “I get the sense your move to Vermont was an unexpected event in your life and maybe due to something tragic. For that I’m truly sorry, but I have to say, I’m glad you showed up on the sidewalk outside the shelter.” He ran his hands along my chest to my shoulders then down my arms. His fingers encircled my wrists, and he brought my hands up to his chest, pausing for a long moment to gaze at me.

“You’re staring again, Jasper,” I teased, actually loving the way he looked at me.

“I know.” He pressed two fingers to my neck where a pulse would be felt.

Hoping he didn’t notice how my pulse rate was faster than a human’s, I took his hand and kissed his fingertips. “What are you doing?”

“Making sure you’re real and that I haven’t fallen asleep in the library reading one of my werewolf books or something.”

I froze. Did he know? Had he picked up on something?
