“Your brother is Austin Rayhill?” Trixie let out a whistle. “I’ve met him. He’s bought a few pieces from me to adorn that pretty house of his in town. Talented man on screen and kind man in person.” She angled her head at Morgan and was quiet long enough that Morgan nearly burst.

Finally Trixie rounded the front desk and came to stand in front of Morgan. “You’ve been searching for a purpose, haven’t you?”

“I need my own life,” Morgan said. “I’ve waited too long to start it.”

“And you think this shop will bring you what you need?”

Glancing around at all the lovely items displayed in the shop and getting a little swept up in its . . . energy, Morgan said, “I can’t explain it logically, but yes. Yes, I do think I’m supposed to take over here. I can do it.”

“I’m sure you can, honey.” Trixie pulled Morgan into a hug that took Morgan a moment to sink into.

“What’s your price?” Morgan asked after Trixie released her.

Trixie stepped over the front desk and turned her laptop around where a figure was displayed on the screen. “This was my original thought, but I’m willing to reduce it by $50,000 if you’ll keep the name of the shop the same.”

Morgan stuck out her right hand. “Deal.”

“I’ll have the proper documents made tomorrow.” Trixie shook Morgan’s hand. “But there’s no pressure to do this right away. I wasn’t planning to leave for New Mexico until the end of next month.”

“Okay, good.” That would give Morgan time to convince Austin to front her the money. Money she fully intended to pay back once she got the hang of things. “Maybe I could spend some time with you in here to get up to speed?”

“I’d be delighted to do that,” Trixie said. “It’s not hard to run this shop, but I have my tricks and tips that have worked for me. I’d love to pass that knowledge on to you.”

“And I’d love to soak all that up.”

Trixie gestured to Morgan’s coat pocket. “I guess that tiger’s eye is boosting your power and self-confidence.”

Morgan pulled the stone out of her pocket and, once again, turned it over in her palm. Was this crazy? It should feel crazy, shouldn’t it?

Why doesn’t it feel crazy?

She’d have to move to Maplehaven. From New York City. She’d be living in a place where dirt roads were a thing. Where bears frequented the neighborhoods. Where snow accumulated in massive amounts.

Where her brother had a place and appeared to be living quite happily when he wasn’t off shooting a new movie.

Where Morgan herself had enjoyed two wonderful days with Sawyer and Nia.

Where maybe Morgan would find her purpose.
