“Business?” Morgan looked at Ellie standing on the other side of Nia. “What is he talking about?”

Ellie merely pointed back to the ice.

Getting a little frustrated at apparently being the only person who didn’t know what the hell was going on, Morgan prepared to grab Brooke’s arm and make her spill.

“While I was injured and out of the game,” Sawyer said, making Morgan focus on him again, “I had the wonderful opportunity to spend time with two fantastic people. One was my daughter, as some of you may have seen on social media.” He paused when people applauded his mention of Nia. “The other was an incredible woman who has stolen something from me.” He pressed his now uncasted hand to his chest. “My heart.”

Every female in the seats near Morgan sighed, but she was too busy concentrating on Sawyer to worry about them drooling over her man.

“Now I don’t want it back,” Sawyer said. “She can have it. It’s all hers, but I want to make sure I have her heart as well.”

Slowly, Sawyer’s skates moved so he was down on one knee and Morgan’s hands flew to her mouth as the fan noise blew up in that arena. The rival team’s fans had to be cheering also because it was so freaking loud.

“Morgan Rayhill, will you marry me?”

Instantly, Sawyer’s image was on the huge screens above the ice. A commotion behind Morgan had her tearing her gaze from him to see his teammates heading for her aisle. Each of them had a red rose and when Morgan looked at her family and friends, they all had a rose too. The team lined a route to the ice and Teddy wiggled his way toward Morgan with a microphone.

“Hit that switch when you decide on your answer,” Teddy said with a smile as he handed the microphone to her.

Decide on my answer?

Only one answer had popped into her mind when she’d heard the question.

Morgan flicked on the microphone and said, “Score at least three goals tonight, and I’ll marry you, Sawyer Lundin.”

The fans absolutely lost their minds as Sawyer laughed, still on one knee on the ice. Nodding, he rose to his skates.

“You heard that, team,” he said. “You better make this easy for me.”

His teammates handed the roses to Morgan, one by one, then they made their way down to the ice.

The announcer took control and the game officially started.

Nia tugged on Morgan’s sleeve after they had all taken their seats again.

“What, sweetie?”

“What if Daddy doesn’t make the goals?” Her little face looked truly worried.

Morgan tapped Nia on the nose. “If you send your daddy all the positive energy you can muster, I’m sure he’ll make those three goals.”

Nia squeezed her eyes shut and her entire body tensed up in her seat. She held her hands out, her fingers splayed. “I gave him all the energies, Morgan.”

Morgan slid her arm around Nia and squeezed her to her side. “Then we have nothing to worry about.”

But . . . the game was a massive nail-biter. Morgan wanted to believe Sawyer would make three goals, but the other team played aggressively. Why the hell had she said three goals? She could have cut the guy a break and said one. Her attempt to be silly might actually backfire on her.

But Sawyer did have that competitive streak in him. With two minutes left in the game, the score was tied at 2-2. The Anchors’ two goals had, indeed, been made by Sawyer, with his teammates going out of their way to make sure he had the puck as much as possible and ample attempts on the net.

Brooke gave Morgan a nervous glance. “Tell me you’re still going to marry him, right? He totally loves you.”

“Have faith,” Morgan said, though her chest was tight.

Then a small hand slid into hers.

She looked down at Nia, and somehow knew the kid was sending her positive energy too.

A moment later, Sawyer got control of the puck. His teammates bowled over anyone who attempted to get close to him from the other team.
